We are kicking off Advent with an SPSE outing at Irvine Park on Saturday, December 2nd from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. We will have hot chocolate and Advent devotional booklets on hand, along with our other literature. Joining us will be a group of carolers, helping us to evangelize through the beauty of music. They will be singing Advent hymns such as “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” as well as some favorite (Advent-appropriate) secular songs, like “White Christmas”.
Irvine Park’s “Christmas Village” opens the previous weekend and, while enjoying this fun community tradition, we hope to be a visible sign of the expectant hope of Advent preparing the way for the joy of Christ’s birth.
The commercial “Christmas season” seems to begin earlier each year. The Church’s desire to worship God in the rhythm of her liturgical seasons may be counter-cultural, yet He answers the true desires of every human heart. We hope to help our neighbors “prepare Him room” in their hearts this Advent by meeting them in the park on December 2nd. St. Nicholas, pray for us!
