God Needs your "Yes!" (And Some Elbow Grease)

Sometimes, God calls us to big things, and just needs our "yes" (and some hard work) to accomplish it. That's what happened in today's story. Our Lord placed a deep desire in a young woman named Emma Clark to evangelize. And since there were no teams where she lives (Maine), she started her own!

With the start of Covid in 2020, Emma was filled with a deep longing to share God's love with others, and to inspire people around her to trust in God's goodness and mercy. These desires were important to Emma after experiencing some scary medical issues that brought about her own reversion to the Church. She began buying prayer cards and Miraculous Medals and giving them out to people she knew. There wasn't a team in Maine at the time, so she didn't exactly know how to start "officially" evangelizing. In Nov. 2020, she joined our Virtual Street Evangelization Workshop on Zoom and describes it as "life changing!" Now filled with confidence, she began giving Miraculous Medals to everyone--neighbors, the mailman and strangers on the street. She learned that everyone is called to evangelize as Catholics and that you don't have to have a college degree in apologetics to evangelize. She realized that this longing in her heart to join a SPSE team was from God, but the fact that there wasn't a team yet in the state of Maine was just God's invitation to give Him her "yes" and trust Him! And as we know, He can do so much with a "yes!" She's now the team leader for the first SPSE team in the state of Maine.

Jessiah's Journey

Ave Maria, FL. A few years back, my husband and I were blessed to join the community at Ave Maria University when my husband joined the football coaching staff. At that same time, a young man named Jessiah started at AMU to play football. Although he wasn’t Catholic, Jessiah went to Catholic high school and college. Interestingly, we would see him at adoration or praise and worship events throughout the school year. We were always struck by his reverence for the Eucharist, especially since he wasn’t Catholic (yet). My husband is in the habit of giving his players Miraculous Medals with St. Benedict Crucifixes and Jessiah received one his freshman year. Also that year, the entire football team hosted a Souper Bowl supper at the local soup kitchen where they welcomed and fed those in need. At the supper, the football players also gave their guests rosaries and Miraculous Medals.

Let's Introduce Ourselves

Lebanon, OH. Recently, the St. Francis de Sales and St. Philip SPSE team spent the day at the “Let’s Lebanon” event. This event is an expo for local businesses and organizations to get together in one space and gain exposure to the public. We wanted to let the Lebanon community see what SPSE is all about. Special thanks to Charlotte for setting up our booth the Friday before- it was beautiful!

We met those that came to the booth with smiles and friendly hellos and “would you like something for free?” We offered books and pamphlets, rosaries, medals and crucifixes. Each booth at the event had an item to raffle off in a drawing. Our raffle items were a rosary bracelet and the book The Joy of Praying the Rosary. To enter the raffle, guests were asked to fill out a prayer request. Many weren’t interested in the drawing, but still left a prayer request. This fact told us that the true power is in prayer! Prayer is what people are truly yearning for more than just free stuff. The team will create a prayer journal with these requests submitted at the expo and whenever the team meets, we’ll pray for all of these requests and any in the future.
