This report comes from team leader Mark with our Eastern Market SPSE team in Detroit, MI:
Anne and Michael joined me at Eastern Market on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon. Jehovah’s Witnesses were set up at our usual corner, so we moved to a shady spot half a block away, next to a crosswalk.
Michael focused on promoting devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He brought Sacred Heart holy cards and talked to visitors about the Heart of Jesus, crowned with thorns and burning with love for us. I was a little surprised that everyone was able to immediately recognize and appreciate the meaning behind the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Almost everyone that approached our table accepted a Sacred Heart holy card.
A mother and her two children, each 8-10 years old, quickly approached our table. The mother immediately said “I wouldn’t be here without Jesus!” Anne asked her to explain and give her testimony. I sensed some hesitation, so I said it was ok and she didn’t have to tell us. This was likely because her children were with her, or because we were strangers, but she briefly said that she previously lived a life of despair and addiction. She hit rock bottom and turned to Jesus out of desperation, so she rightly credits Him for turning her life around.
I saw one formerly homeless man that I met 12 years ago doing homeless outreach. Brian didn’t stay long, he was definitely in a rush, but it was great to see him doing well. We aldo prayed with a dozen people for various intentions—job search, car problems, family issues, etc.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
