Our Lady Sent Help - 2025-03-30
April 6, 2025
Positive responses tripled last week! So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
Last Sunday, veteran evangelist Father Tom felt a singular call from Our Lady of Medjugorje to join us on the street. His back and neck problems had made it too difficult for him to even get to the business park, much less stand for the needed hour or so. But God blessed his back that day: Our Lord not only removed most of the pain, but also gave Fr. Tom stamina, both to stand for the entire session and to walk 6 blocks afterwards to the car! Meanwhile, we had nearly non-stop visitors, giving away more than 3 times the typical number of Rosaries. God is so good! Thank you, Blessed Mother! Thank you, Fr. Tom! May God keep His Fire burning in your heart!
Just as we were getting the table set up, a woman stopped to select a Rosary for a relative. She had been raised and confirmed Catholic and had attended Catholic school, but admitted she did not attend Mass anymore, though hinting that she might again. We encouraged her to return to the many graces to be had in the Sacraments and gave her a “Come Home” pamphlet. Pray that she, like the prodigal son, will repent and return to the Bride of Christ.
Two women and an early teen paused as they passed, encouraging the boy to pick out a Rosary. When we asked if they were familiar with the Rosary, the talkative woman said she was raised in the Church, confirmed, and sent to a Catholic school, but no longer attended Mass. She said all her family were still Catholic and the boy had been baptized. However, since she had “married” the second woman and “all the trauma that came with that”, she was “obviously not” going to Mass anymore. She spoke of this in a more matter-of-fact way than in anger. Still, after speaking this revelation, they were ready to move on. E. Chuck offered that we’re given a lot of choices in life, some temporary, some eternal, and that it was better to choose what lasted longest. Perhaps out of politeness, they agreed. Please pray for them, that they will love God and trust in His mercy.
A Catholic man stopped for a Rosary for his daughter “Addy”, who will be receiving her First Communion in a few weeks. May the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar bless, protect, and guide Addy and her family into Sainthood!
A woman stopped. Although she and her entire household are unchurched, she said her 6-year-old son had “suddenly become religious”. The boy had kept asking his mother for “a T” (which the mom finally realized referred to a Cross). She chose a Rosary for him and accepted the pamphlet on how to pray it, as well as a copy of both of our prayer cards. May God lead that young man all the way into the Catholic Church and make him a Saint!
Three late-teen or young-adult men stopped so the tallest one could say, “I’m a Christian, so I was wondering what the difference is between Christians and Catholics.” Father Tom told him that Catholics and Protestants are united in their love for Christ and their need for His saving work on the Cross. He explained that the Rosary is a prayer tool, its job is to increase and deepen our love for Christ. The boys then each chose a Rosary and thanked us. E. Lucy also handed the tall visitor a “Why Be Catholic?” pamphlet. Pray that those boys will indeed fall deeper and deeper in love with Jesus Christ, persevering in faith and hope.
The man with the walker, who had lost his father last Father’s Day, had recently lost the Rosary he had kept tied to his walker “as a memorial”. So when he saw us, he stopped to get another one. Lord, may the soul of the man’s father rest in peace, and may You bless our visitor and lead him to salvation.
Many Catholics happily called out that they already had a Rosary at home. We asked them to remember us in prayer.
Several groups of non-Catholic Christian teens wondered what the Rosary was, and stopped to ask. After we explained the devotion, nearly all of them chose a Rosary for him- or herself. May God draw them each into a deep and living relationship with their Savior Jesus Christ.
A man slowed enough to say he had been raised Catholic and spent eight years in Catholic schools, but was “long ago done with the Church”. He claimed the Church was too political and had too much money. When the evangelist offered that those side issues were not worth cutting himself off from being fed by the Body and Blood of Christ, he sneered that neither he nor anybody “was hungry for any of that stuff” and that he “knew things about the Catholic Church that [we] did not”, storming away in anger. Please pray for this man, that his heart of stone be turned to flesh so he can return to the only place he will find healing.
A young man riding a bike declined our offer of a Rosary by calling a greeting to the enemy of his soul. The evangelists replied with, “May God bless you.” Much later in the session, he passed by again, this time he was walking his bike. He came to the table, saying, “Okay, I’ll take one this time.” As the evangelist offered that the prayer was a great way to get to know Jesus, he said, “Thank you and God bless you” and then pushed his bike along a few more steps. He paused to wrap the green Rosary around his wrist, and then got on his bike and rode away. Pray that the Holy Spirit will keep his conscience stronger than his desire to shock/rebel and that Mother Mary will guide him to her Son.
A big home-remodeling and flower show was going on in the main convention center. The weather was also nice for the first time in a few days, so foot traffic was steady and heavy. Still, we were surprised when we gave away an astonishing 65-70 Rosaries and its pamphlet, a “Why Be Catholic?” pamphlet, a Divine Mercy prayer card, and an Our Lady Untier of Knots prayer card.
Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
God showed us He is pleased with obedience. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“They are happy, whose strength is in you, in whose hearts are the roads to Zion” (Ps 84:6).
