Moving in the Right Direction - 2025-05-04

May 11, 2025

More people seem to be moving out of indifference toward a desire for Faith. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.

Long-time visitor “Uwe”, although initially avoiding eye contact, stopped for a fairly lengthy discussion once the evangelist hailed him. She asked him a question about his philosophy, which he didn’t answer, but he did try to explain more about his worldview. Unfortunately, it seems to be basically dog-eat-dog, with everyone protecting their own small group. The evangelist pointed out that that doesn’t work in the long run because it leads to a diminishing gene pool. “Yes,” Uwe conceded, “groups would have to have some way of welcoming in others.” During the conversation, he also emphasized that vulnerable people need to be protected, and that fathers naturally want to protect their children. This seems to be a new idea for him, since the last time he mentioned fathers it was as “always harsh and disciplinary” (and so was his main objection to thinking of God as Father). Uwe’s philosophy still doesn’t hang together as a whole, but I’m glad to see it continue to shift in more Catholic-friendly (i.e., rational) directions. Please continue to pray for Uwe?

Two people, who were promoting a restaurant, stopped at the table when the man expressed an interest in the Rosary. He is completely unchurched, but said he’s becoming interested in religion. The evangelist handed him a Good News/kerygma pamphlet to read when he isn’t in such a hurry, and explained the Rosary as a way to get to understand Jesus. The woman may also have selected a Rosary. Lord Jesus, please guide our visitors to all truth, that is, to You!

A shy, college-aged Catholic stopped for a Rosary. He’s fairly new in town, he said, and hasn’t found a parish home yet. He’d already attended the local university’s Newman Center a couple of times, but wasn’t enthusiastic about it. The evangelist gave him a copy of our map to area parishes, pointing out another one in the area. He also chose a Rosary. Lord, help your beloved son find a parish home, where he will be welcomed and nurtured in his Faith.

A non-believing dad, accompanying two grade-school-aged girls, stopped when one of the girls wanted a Rosary. The evangelist also gave her a copy of the Rosary pamphlet as an introduction to Jesus. May the Rosary draw the girl into a living faith in Jesus Christ.

The heavyset young-adult man, who has responded with such hostility every time we’ve offered him a Rosary, returned a wave this time as he passed by. Remembering Uwe’s initial hostility, the evangelist took encouragement from the friendly gesture. Please send up a prayer that God continues to soften this man’s heart and draw him to Himself.

A Catholic man stopped and chose a Rosary. He also offered us a donation, which we politely declined. May God keep him strong in Faith.

A down-and-out-looking couple stopped when she wanted a Rosary. “She’s Catholic,” the man volunteered. When asked which parish they attended, they said they were “new in town” and hadn’t gotten connected yet. The evangelist gave them a map, helpfully pointing out the nearest parish. They each chose a Rosary and accepted the pamphlet on how to pray it. Our conversation was cut short, though, as other people stepped up to the table. Lord, You know this couple’s needs. Please provide all that they require to get their lives back on track and moving in the direction You desire for them!

Looking overhead above the center of the square, one could see two layers of clouds moving briskly in opposite directions. At ground level, though, we experienced only occasional mild gusts of wind, thanks be to God. The sun was shining, and foot traffic was back to its typical level. Altogether, the apostolate gave away 15-20 Rosaries and its pamphlet, one Good News/kerygma pamphlet, and 2 maps to area parishes.

Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.

God continues to draw people to Himself! So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
