The Need for Christ - 2025-05-11
May 18, 2025
Intact families are becoming a more common sight, praise God! And thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
A 40-something man and his wife stopped twice during the session. The first time was while our table was being set up. He said his father, in another city, is on hospice and has received “prayers from a Catholic priest”. The man wanted a Rosary to take to him, and chose a chain Rosary with strikingly blue cube-shaped beads. When he stopped a second time later on, to thank us for being there, he gave his father’s name: “Joe Garcia”. Please send up a prayer for Jose/Joe!
A homeless man stopped for a Rosary and also asked for a Divine Mercy prayer card. May the Lord have mercy on him and restore him to society.
Several non-Catholics paused in passing to say they liked our new Pope! May God bless and guide Pope Leo XIV.
“Bonita” (whose name may actually be “Ruthie”) stopped. She didn’t remember getting a Rosary from us a couple of weeks ago. She was also in a mood to accuse all Catholics of serious crimes, while not wanting to consider facts. Our visitor’s anger began to escalate as the evangelist tried to converse with her. So, the evangelist used the rare strategy of turning and offering Rosaries to other people instead of prolonging the conversation. Surprisingly, our visitor calmed down and quietly moved along. May God bless and heal her wounded heart!
A family stopped so each parent and their 3 or 4 grade-school-aged boys could choose a Rosary. One boy had claimed the black chain Rosary the evangelist had just laid on the table. As the group was leaving, he exclaimed, “Hey! I’m the only one who got a metal one!” May the family pray it together and experience blessing!
Three somewhat scruffy-looking young adults stopped when one of the two men wanted a Rosary. He had no idea what it was, and he wasn’t Christian. Because the group seemed impatient, the evangelist introduced the Rosary as a way to get to know Who Jesus is, and encouraged our visitor to use it reverently to take his questions to Him. He seemed open to trying it. I don’t think either of his two companions chose a Rosary. May Our Lord draw our visitor into a saving relationship with Himself.
On the way to the business park, one evangelist overheard a woman explaining to a group of her fellow young adults, “One or both of them are there every week...” Was it about us?
A petite, nicely dressed woman, “Lisa”, was passing by during the “Bonita” episode. She declined a Rosary at that time, but came to the table later in the session. She still didn’t take a Rosary, but thanked us for being there and prayed for us. She was new in town and felt she was having trouble fitting in. She “used to be Catholic” in another part of the country, and had since then spent time in non-Catholic Christian communities. It didn’t sound like she was connected with any church group here. Please pray for Lisa, that she’ll be drawn back to the Catholic Church, where she’ll find “home” no matter in what city she is.
On this national holiday to honor mothers, lots of family groups went by. Quite a number of them stopped for a Rosary. One family of six each chose a Rosary, while the evangelist encouraged them to pray it together every day.
A man, whose birthday it was, stopped to get a Rosary. He was a non-Catholic Christian and listened with interest to the explanation of the devotion and how it helps one grow closer to Christ. I can’t remember if the woman with him also chose a Rosary.
Altogether, the apostolate gave away 25-30 Rosaries and its pamphlet, as well as a Divine Mercy prayer card.
Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
Our need for Jesus Christ is real, and the Rosary reminds us of that. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
