God Provides - 2025-Jun-08
June 15, 2025
God knows our needs! So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
During our previous session, we were chagrined to find that our supply bag was out of both Bibles and Catechisms. So this week, e. Lucy brought along one of each. However, when we opened our supply bag to put them in, a pristine copy of each book was already there! Thank you, God! (And after the session, when e. Lucy went to place the extra books back on the shelf at home, there almost wasn’t room. In other words, those empty spots had also been filled in.) Perhaps this means that more visitors will be needing these books in the upcoming weeks? God is so good!!!
Two groups of three teens stopped at the table, a few minutes apart. The first group was Catholic and already knew about the Rosary. After we set them each up with one, e. Chuck exhorted them to “pray it together!” The second group were non-Catholic Christians. After hearing the explanation of what the Rosary is, two of them chose one apiece. May God call all of these young people to Himself and a life of holiness!
About two-thirds of the way through the session, an economically challenged-looking man, holding a large envelope, stopped for a Rosary. He seemed barely verbal. After he chose a Rosary and accepted its pamphlet, he hesitantly asked if he could ask us something. Although we expected the typical request for money, he simply asked where the nearest mailbox was, so he could post the envelope for his grandmother. E. Lucy remembered seeing one less than a block away, and told him where it was. He paused, and then seemed embarrassed to admit that he had great difficulty following directions. So, she volunteered to quickly take him there. But when they reached the mailbox, it was so covered with graffiti that the pickup time was unreadable. While they had walked that block to the mailbox, our visitor explained that he and his 81-year-old grandmother lived in the same subsidized-housing apartment building. She had lost her sight, so the grandson helped her when she needed it. The paperwork in the envelope was very important, he said, because her housing depended on it getting there in time. E. Lucy wasn’t sure the graffiti-covered mailbox was still in service, so she offered to show him where the post office was, about 4 blocks away. She led him there, he pessimistically predicting that the building would be locked. But the door to the post office lobby was open. They went in, and when the evangelist noted that the man didn’t seem to know what to do, she pointed out the slot in which to mail large envelopes. After watching our visitor deposit the envelope safely into the slot, the evangelist made it back to our table just before the session ended. May God bless our visitor and his grandmother and provide for their needs.
We ran into “Uwe” as we neared “our spot”. He told us a couple of clean jokes and then left to go get a cup of tea. Later in the session, he passed by again and pleasantly reminded e. Chuck of the punch lines. “Marty” succeeded in sneaking up on us as we were setting up. We exchanged pleasantries. And then Marty actually chose a Rosary (gold with silver spacer beads). I don’t remember if he took a copy of the pamphlet. May God use the Rosary to lead Marty to healing and meaning in his life.
We put a chain Rosary with pearl beads on the table. Surprisingly, a man chose it. Unfortunately, the evangelist doesn’t remember more of the encounter. May the beauty of the Rosary draw the man to Him Who is the source of all beauty!
A young man stopped to pick out a Rosary and said he had attended classes to become Catholic (at some undisclosed point in the past) but had dropped out. When asked why he quit attending, he said it had become “too intense” but didn’t elaborate. He immediately changed the subject by asking how to pray the Rosary. After explaining the how’s and why’s of the prayer, the evangelist encouraged him to let the Rosary help him discern whether it was time to return to OCIA and to seek God’s counsel in all his life decisions. Please pray that he will hear and heed the Holy Spirit’s call to become part of the Body of Christ.
A woman approached the table and said that the older members of her family (it sounded like they were no longer alive) had been Catholic. So, she knew what the Rosary was, but she herself was not Chrisitan. As she admitted to not being a Christian, she visibly stiffened and shrank back as if expecting a rebuke. The evangelist encouraged her to allow the stories of the Rosary to show her how much God loves her and to be willing to ask God all the hard questions on her mind. Though she seemed surprised by that advice, she stated that she was going to give the Rosary away and went on her way. Pray that she will let the God who never stops pursuing us to catch her and fill her with light, life, and love.
Two college-aged men on an electric scooter screeched to a stop at the table at the sight of the Crucifixes on the Rosaries. Though they were mostly intent on picking out colors (one chose his school colors), they seemed genuinely pleased to see a Christian display in public. With fist bumps and smiles, they blessed the evangelists’ work as they sped on their way. Pray that their enthusiasm for the Lord will show in all aspects of their lives.
Altogether, we gave away 15-20 Rosaries and its pamphlet.
Please pray for us today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
God is trustworthy and calls all human beings to Himself. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
