Loosening Soil in the Vineyard - 2025-Jul-27
August 3, 2025
God can touch hearts even without undue noise. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
Two families with young children were walking together. When one family stopped for Rosaries, the other family did, too. They were non-Catholic Christians, so we described the Rosary as a series of meditations on the life of Christ that help us grow closer to Him. At least five or six members of the group accepted a Rosary and the pamphlet on how to pray it. May God use the Rosary stories to draw each member of the families to Him and peace.
A Catholic mother with two little boys, soaking wet from playing in the fountain, stopped so the boys could get a Rosary. It turns out that she is from the same parish as e. Lucy. After we encouraged them to pray the Rosary together, the mom chose one, too, and accepted pamphlets for all of them (so they wouldn’t get wet from the boys’ hands). May God bless the family and help the boys grow up Faithful.
A young-adult man stopped who wasn’t a Christian. E. Lucy explained the Rosary as a way to get to know Who Christ is. She encouraged him to use it reverently and take his questions into the meditations. She also set him up with a copy of the Good News/kerygma pamphlet. May God draw him to actually pray the Rosary, and then answer his prayer by granting the gift of Faith!
A group of three Catholic college-aged women stopped. Each enthusiastically chose a Rosary. All graduates of the same Catholic high school, they had already connected with the Newman Center on their college campus. May God keep them faithful and grant them a wholesome circle of friends to grow holy with.
A non-Catholic couple stopped to get a Rosary. After we explained the devotion, they each wanted one, but were picky about the colors. Maybe we shouldn’t have catered to their whims, but we happened to have some extra Rosaries on hand (may God bless our so-generous Rosary makers!!!), so we offered them alternatives to the ones we had on the table. May God draw them, through the color of the Rosary they each chose, to actually use it for prayer and receive blessing from God!
A young-adult man walked by. In answer to e. Lucy’s offer of a free Rosary, he replied, “I’m good.” “Really?!” was the evangelist’s spontaneous response. If the man is not living a holy life, may that word, “Really?!”, echo in his heart until he turns his life back onto the “strait and narrow” path (cf. Matt 7:13-14).
A young-adult couple stopped for a Rosary, led by the woman while the man stayed to one side. They were about to move to an historically Catholic country to teach English for 8 months. Her reason for wanting a Rosary was that since the country historically has been mostly Catholic, she thought they should have something Catholic to take with them. They, however, were “spiritual not religious” (so said the man). He seemed uncomfortable talking about it and made no eye contact until e. Chuck asked what they were doing in that country. Meanwhile, e. Lucy talked with the woman about how to get to know Jesus through the Rosary prayer. She accepted the Good News/kerygma pamphlet before they went on their way. Pray that the beauty and grandeur of the ancient churches and cathedrals they will see will open their hearts to hear the Holy Spirit’s call to the one true religion.
A repeat visitor, who lives in a women’s shelter and walks her dog in a stroller, stopped to tell us about the neighbor’s dog she also had with her. Though she grew up Catholic, she now believes in a vague anything and everything. Her Catholic aunt and uncle were coming to visit, however, and she wanted Rosaries and Divine Mercy prayer cards to give them. So, we set her up. Please pray she will turn from seeking only what feels good to following the way everlasting.
Other memories are of a vague string of people smiling and listening but not really responding in any other way. However, we still find it amazing when, often, people walking by all zoned out will suddenly respond when we invite them over, how their whole face lights up.
Altogether, the three evangelists gave away 25-30 Rosaries and its pamphlet on how to pray it, and 1-2 Good News/kerygma pamphlets.
Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s effort.
We were grateful for a return of the usually peaceful atmosphere that surrounds our apostolate. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
