Our Unchanging Lord - 2025-Nov-30

December 7, 2025

Surrounded by seasonal distractions, still people came to our table. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.

Half of “our” business park was occupied by a large, pseudo-Christian religion’s fund-raising machines and entertainments, another quarter contained a pair of small merchant booths, one closed but the other selling National-Park-themed wooden decorations. The final quarter was set up to funnel people into the main convention center for the annual decorated-tree fundraiser for a local hospital. We set up opposite that, where the south spoke meets the grand circle. It was shaded and breezy, but at least no one required us to move farther away, thank God!

Although last week brought no visits from the pseudo-Christian missionaries associated with the fund-raising organization, this week we were visited by at least four groups of them. One pair of very friendly young-adult women, who were walking around promoting the Giving Machines, stopped to ask in a friendly way what we were doing, and were surprised to hear the SPSE team had been there every Sunday for going on 14 years. Worried that we were cold, they offered us hot chocolate, which, for various reasons, we declined. But one of us accepted disposable hand warmers. They wanted to hear our faith stories which we shared, and they accepted Rosaries. Pray that they receive their reward for their kindness to us, and meet the Incarnate God in the Rosary.

Another young-adult male missionary, perhaps somewhat overdressed, chose a pink Rosary (his “favorite color”) and chatted with e. Chuck for awhile. He had been talking to friends among the young people who were walking around advertising the Giving Machines, and then came to the table for a Rosary. He asked if the Rosary was for special occasions, how to pray it, and if each bead stood for something. The evangelist walked him through the prayer, demonstrating how to pray with the beads, and emphasizing that it wasn’t about “getting through the prayer” but about getting to know and love Jesus more and more. The evangelist emphasized the divinity of Jesus, his Sonship, and His salvific work on the Cross. The young man was polite and thankful before rejoining his friends. Pray that he dares to take up the Rosary in prayer and encounters his Savior.

Several families stopped so four or five members of the group could get a Rosary. We asked the Catholic ones to “pray it once for us”. Others, who all claimed to be Christian, were given a brief explanation of the devotion and encouraged to try it. May the Lord draw them each to Himself and salvation!

A thin woman who smelled strongly of alcohol seemed overjoyed by our presence. Evidently Catholic, she said she already has the habit of praying the Rosary daily. She took her leave, but a few minutes later she returned with a man of about the same age. They talked with e. Chuck for awhile.

“Marty” also stopped to say hi to e. Chuck.

All other memories are blended together in an endless stream of polite, enthusiastic, friendly encounters. Altogether, we gave away 45-50 Rosaries and its pamphlet, 2-3 Divine Mercy prayer cards, 2-3 Our Lady Untier of Knots prayer cards, and perhaps a “Good News”/kerygma pamphlet.

Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.

Instead of pursuing entertainments that cannot truly satisfy, we encourage people to seek Our Lord and eternal happiness. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. May God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!

“They are happy, whose strength is in you, in whose hearts are the roads to Zion” (Ps 84:6).
