People Needing God - 2026-Jan-04

January 11, 2026

People are still attracted to Good, even if they don’t know Him yet. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.

“Dave”, a man with a gray beard, stopped. He declined a Rosary but asked if we had a map of Boise, since he hated to use his cell phone. We showed him our map to area parishes, but it lacked the detail he wished. He pointed to a nearby outdoor sculpture that his dad had made, going into detail about his dad’s artistic method and where he sold his sculptures and the difficulties he had selling them. Then he asked for directions to the city library because another of his dad’s sculptures was there. Later in the session, he stopped by again to talk with e. Chuck. This time he talked at length about his dad’s recent poor health at 89, and the drastic personality changes they were bringing on. Finally, he admitted his dad had been put on hospice and Dave, disagreeing with the doctors, had driven his dad across three states to his sister’s place. The drive had been traumatic for them both. He suddenly thanked the evangelist for listening and started to leave, but paused to say he was worried because the doctor had said Alzheimer’s was genetic. E. Chuck replied that none of us know how we are leaving the world, but that should cause us to “look up”. Dave laughed nervously, shrugged, and went on his way. Pray that Dave’s unease about his mortality will start him on the path to conversion. Pray for his dad (also named “Dave”) for peace, faith, and a happy death. And pray for Dave’s sister and her sudden need to find a caregiver.

A baby-faced, young-adult, homeless man named “Bryce” accepted a Rosary, directions to a nearby parish, and a “Why Be Catholic?” pamphlet. He seemed engaged as we explained the Rosary prayer, and wondered if he could run our “marketing.” We explained that our only advertising was an in-person offer to passersby. He said he’d tell others about us, and then indicated the homeless man he knew, who was sitting across the plaza beside his trailer of stuff. Bryce then walked over to the man and talked to him at length. Then he came back to select a Rosary for the man. Pray that Bryce strives to solve his spiritual homelessness and may he find a way off the street.

A smiling young-adult man named “Hakoah” enthusiastically said yes to our offer of a Rosary. He ended up choosing a chain Rosary that could fit over his large head. He was unfamiliar with the Rosary, and told us he had recently left a pseudo-Christian religion. Although he was now reluctant to consider any religion, he listened cheerfully as we explained the prayer. He also accepted a Good News/kerygma pamphlet. Pray that Hakoah does not equate all religions with the false one he left, and allows the truth of Jesus Christ to lead him to the Catholic Church.

A man leading a young hunting dog came to the table when we offered him a Rosary. “Yes, I want one,” he said. But then he told us that he worshipped the very enemy of his soul. “Well, that doesn’t make sense,” one evangelist said, noticing the odor of chronic substance abuse coming from him. Then she explained how to pray the Rosary and encouraged him to do so. Lord, save him!

A mom with a preschool-aged boy were passing by. The boy wanted a Rosary, so the mom brought him over to choose one. The mom declined to receive one, but was willing to hold the pamphlet for the boy. Somewhat later the boy, followed by his mom and multiple other adults, came back by. The boy wanted to trade his Rosary for one of a different color, and we let him do so. Lord, draw that boy into Your Heart and save him!

Another man was interested in attending Mass, and accepted a copy of our map. E. Nancy told him about the open house that was going on at the nearest Catholic church, and encouraged him to go in and study the Rosary booklet while he waited for Mass. Lord, help him connect with Your people and You!

A couple was walking behind us and e. Nancy asked if they would like a Rosary. The lady’s expression seemed to say, “No, I do not want a Rosary, and I don’t even want to respond to you.” However, she said yes. She seemed apprehensive, but walked around the table to selected a Rosary. She then listened to our explanation of the devotion, and accepted its pamphlet. The man looked pleasant, but just said no thank you. Lord, calm the woman’s fears and draw her close to You!

Not much foot traffic passed our table during the session, probably due to the unusually steady rainfall. Still, we gave away almost 10 Rosaries, a “Good News”/kerygma pamphlet, a “Why Be Catholic?” pamphlet, and a map of area parishes.

Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.

Every human being has a deep need for God. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love.

“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
