Hungry for God - 2026-Feb-01

February 8, 2026

The Rosary reminds people about God, and that’s a good thing. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
“James”, dressed in a brown monk costume, stopped for a long visit. He had a long Rosary with wooden beads hanging from his belt and was pulling a suitcase. He was probably in his 20s. The first words out of his mouth were, “Is it possible for [a member of a non-Catholic liturgical Christian community] to become a Catholic?” Over the course of the conversation, we learned that James is homeless, grew up in the non-Catholic Christian religion but is now interested in becoming Catholic. His younger sister, who had also been living on the street, was recently killed in a car accident. He told us that he had slipped on the ice in eastern Idaho and cracked a rib while visiting a Catholic church. He also said that his mother is in the occult and has been putting pressure and “spells” on him to give up on Christianity. We prayed for him, gave him a Rosary pamphlet so he could learn how to pray with his Rosary, a Divine Mercy Chaplet card to help him pray for his departed sister, a St Michael the archangel prayer card to help him seek protection from his mother’s influence, and a Mary Untier of Knots prayer card to ask for help in dealing with problems. His Rosary, which he had found somewhere, had a St. Benedict medal, so we encouraged him to look up the meaning of the symbols on the medallion and to pray those prayers as an additional protection against his mother’s influence. He also asked if he could have a green chain Rosary to remind him of his Irish ancestry and St. Patrick, which we gave him. He said he had bus tickets for his home town that left the next day and was heading to the nearest Catholic Church for the afternoon. Please pray for James, that he be protected from the enemy of his soul, that he be comforted in grief, and that the Catholics he meets with in his hometown be filled with the grace to recognize his needs and help him find healing.
Although I thought we were nearly out of chain Rosaries, I found another group of them in our bag. Later, I again found another small group of them when they were needed. Thank you, God! Please bless again our generous Rosary makers!
A thin woman was dressed all in black and wearing a wide-brimmed black hat with a short round crown. She paused across the walkway from us and watched for a while. Then two teenagers (or young adults), also dressed in black, came to the table. In answer to our question about whether they were familiar with the Rosary, one teen pushed up his sleeve and pointed out what could have been a crucifix almost hidden in the midst of an elaborate colored tattoo. After they each chose a Rosary and took their leave, the thin woman came to the table. There was some confusion when she asked if we were Catholic, or from a Catholic organization. She finally claimed that she was Catholic, too, and chose a Rosary. Lord, You know the source of confusion and what the three are into. Please save them and free them from all evil influences.
A tall young man named “Phil”, wearing a t-shirt with the crowned-eagle symbol of an overseas country, came to the table without being asked, arriving just as someone else was leaving. He is Catholic and his mother’s side of the family is from the predominantly Catholic country indicated on his shirt. Though he did not have a Rosary, Phil had been wanting one for some time and was glad to get the pamphlet on how to pray it. He attends a local parish with his family. Pray that the habit of prayer will become part of Phil’s life and that God deepens his conversion of heart, mind, and soul.
Two young-adult men, both Catholic, eagerly looked over the selection of Rosaries. They talked about how they pray the Rosary with their family when they “go to Mass on Christmas and Easter”. We encouraged them to make it a daily prayer: Just as we go to the gym daily to build muscle, we need to take up the Rosary daily to build spiritual muscle. Unfortunately, they took the metaphor literally and talked about how they liked to go to the gym. May the Rosaries they selected be a visual reminder of their daily need for communion with God and stir up in them a desire to go to Mass weekly.
Some children came running from across the plaza asking if they could have a Rosary. We asked them how they knew what we were doing from so far away and they said they remembered us from another time that their family had come downtown. Shortly, the rest of the family caught up. As this large Catholic family arrived the mothers made sure the kids thanked us. A couple of adults also selected Rosaries, and we encouraged them to pray together. May this family stay united in faith, hope and love and draw others to our Lord with their example.
While the large family was choosing Rosaries and talking with e. Chuck, two preteen boys quietly came to the table. They were non-Catholic Christians, so the evangelist gave them a brief description of the devotion and its Christ-centeredness before they each chose one and accepted its pamphlet.
Altogether, the two evangelists gave away 30-35 Rosaries and its pamphlet, as well as a map to area parishes, a Divine Mercy prayer card, and an Our Lady Untier of Knots prayer card.
Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
Only God can satisfy people’s hunger for Him. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!

“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
