Jesus in the Public Square – 2026-Mar-22
March 29, 2026
People still need Jesus. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
A group of four people stopped when one of the men wanted a Rosary. They seemed to be a group of off-duty military folks. Then the other man and the two women also came to the table, the largest man leading a nervous young dog on a leash. The first man said he was very familiar with the Rosary since he had a grandparent who prayed it. All four claimed to be Christian and ended up getting a Rosary. (The dog, though, left a sizable puddle behind and we had to move our table a bit.) Still, may God bless and encourage the first man’s Rosary-praying grandparent, and all of our faithful Catholic grandparents! Your prayers matter.
A young-adult man stopped, who was only barely familiar with the Rosary. We asked if he knew that Jesus loves him and has an amazing plan for his life. Shrugging one shoulder and looking downcast, he answered, “So I’ve been told.” E. Lucy then explained the Rosary devotion as a way to get to know Who Jesus is. She also encouraged him to use it reverently to take his questions about Jesus through the meditations. Lord, grant him the desire to try the Rosary and please reveal Yourself to his heart, drawing him to You and salvation.
After his parent had declined to receive a Rosary, a pre-teen boy ran back to the table a few minutes later. He had evidently received permission to get a Rosary. He was not familiar with the devotion, but he gave a big smile and nodded when we asked if he knew that Jesus loved him. We then quickly described the devotion and encouraged him to actually use his new Rosary to grow closer to Christ. Later, he and his father passed by again. When offered to receive a Rosary for himself, the father grimaced as he again declined to do so. Lord, please confirm that boy in his faith in You and please soften his father’s heart and lead him to salvation.
Two young-adult women stopped to choose a Rosary apiece. They were non-Catholic Christians and were open to using the Rosary devotion to deepen their relationship with Jesus. Lord, bless each woman’s desire to follow You, protect her, and lead her to salvation.
A Catholic teen and his mother at first walked by with no response to our offer of a free Rosary. Later, e. Nancy saw them coming back by. She used e. Chuck’s line, “You changed your mind? You came back?” They came to the table so the boy could get a Rosary. E. Lucy offered the mom one, too, and her son translated. She accepted the Rosary booklet in Spanish. They kept double-checking that there really was no charge for the Rosaries. E. Nancy also reported that they seemed to have a lot on their minds, and so many people to pray for. Lord, bless this family, hear their prayers, and help them remain mutually helpful to each other.
A man (intense? odd? homeless, maybe?) accepted our offer of a free Rosary. He asked the evangelist to bless him, but she replied that she wasn’t authorized to do so. However, she volunteered the information that the Rosaries had been blessed. That seemed to satisfy him and he accepted one. Lord, bless and heal this man and draw him deep into Your Heart.
Several people walked by and said they were Catholic, they had already gotten a Rosary from us, or that they belonged to a certain non-Catholic Christian denomination. We want to tell them that non-Catholic Christian have stopped and told us they pray the Rosary, even using a Catholic app. It’s not often wise, though, to be yelling across the walkway. Still, our interaction with people seems to put Jesus and prayer on their minds. May the Lord bless each one of them.
One young man walked by and said, “I’m Catholic.” But then he seemed offended that we offered him a Rosary anyway or its booklet on how to pray it. He said he had all that at home. Lord, draw him to a greater appreciation of the Rosary devotion and show him the value of always having one with him, ready to pray at any time.
One young-adult woman said something to the effect of “I don’t believe in God”, and then, “I’m not sorry to say, I don’t believe in Jesus either.” She went by fast on her bicycle, so it was a little hard to understand but I do believe that’s the gist of her remark. She was also out of earshot before we could reply. Lord, you love this woman. Please expand her desire to be honest into a love for You, Who are Truth Itself, and lead her to salvation.
One couple stopped, the man very interested in getting a Rosary and its prayer booklet. The woman not only declined, but she also seemed to have an aversion to it. Lord, draw the man into a true love for this devotion. And, in answer to his prayers, bring salvation to the woman also.
One lady stopped and said she used to be Catholic, and that she had her great grandmother’s very beautiful Rosary. Then she selected the fanciest Rosary we had out on the table. Lord, use the beauty of the lady’s Rosaries to draw her back to You in the Sacraments.
Another young teen, maybe 13 years old or so, stopped and selected a pearl-and-gold Rosary. It’s unusual for a boy that age to pick such a pretty Rosary, but e. Nancy saw him holding it up and looking at it for quite a while, she would say, admiring it. Beauty speaks to people. Lord, You are the source of all beauty. Please draw this boy to Yourself through the Rosary he chose.
Although the sun was shining and the temperature was quite pleasant, we saw very light foot traffic throughout the session. However, the two evangelists still gave away 20-25 Rosaries and its pamphlet on how to pray it.
Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
God gives us the sure anchor for our hope (cf. Hebrews 6:17-20). So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
