People Still Want a Rosary - 2026-Apr-19

April 26, 2026

God works through the Rosary and draws people to Himself. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.

The quarter of the business park connected to the main convention center was taken up by a business networking event for which workers were hurrying to finish setting up. They had already erected a white picket fence as the event border, which excluded us from our “usual spot.” So, we set up across the walkway from it (and none of the many business park employees asked us to leave, thank God). The event hadn’t started by the time we ended our session.

A well-groomed man stopped for a Rosary. When asked if he were familiar with it, he said, “Yeah, I used to be Catholic.” E. Lucy assured him that he’d be welcomed back and asked if he’d like a map of area parishes. “As a matter of fact, yes”, he replied. Then he added that he was actually in the process of moving to Boise and that it would be a good opportunity to get reconnected with the Church. He gladly received the map and thanked us. Lord, bring him home to the Sacraments, and grant that he feels welcomed when he returns.

Two homeless-looking women stopped when offered a Rosary. One woman has been a frequent visitor. She was wearing a necklace featuring a star-shaped trinket. After chatting awhile about the dog that she had with her, she talked about her stepfather’s life-threatening allergies. “Would you like us to pray?” we offered. She said yes, and so we offered up a prayer for healing for her stepfather. They took their leave without taking a Rosary this time. Lord, bless the healing You have already provided the stepfather and bring all three of these people to salvation in You.

A family hesitated when offered a free Rosary. Then they nudged the preteen boy to come choose one, which he did. They’re Catholic. However, they have questions about Church teachings. We did encourage them to establish a family Rosary time because it is such a powerful prayer for peace and protection, the one evangelist telling them that her family had prayed together at bedtime. The father then claimed that he is actually searching for truth in other religions. We offered them a copy of the Catechism, but they didn’t “have a pocket big enough to carry it” and so declined receiving it. They mentioned the possibility of stopping for it on their way home, and we said, “Sure, if we are still here.” We didn’t see them again in the session. Lord, defend the man from error, open his mind to the Truth that You have revealed to Your Church, and help him lead his family to salvation.

Long-time visitor “Marty” came by. It turns out that he had slipped on some black ice, back in January, broke his hip, and is just now able to get around without too much pain. We offered to pray for him, and he welcomed the opportunity to receive prayer. He didn’t seem to hear us, though, when we asked if he noticed any improvement. Lord, You know all of Marty’s needs for healing. Please heal him and save him!

“Bethann(?)”, a cheerful woman gliding by on a rented electric scooter, asked if the Rosaries were really free. When we said yes, she said she had to get her phone. She zipped away but returned soon thereafter. She started taking a video of the Rosaries. She introduced herself as being from out of town and representing a national “black car” transportation company. She also told us more about the gathering to be held in the fenced-off corner of the business park. Turning back to the subject of the Rosaries, she wasn’t familiar with the devotion but listened with interest to our explanation, and then chose one. [I think she was Christian. Someone was Christian and showed us the little silver cross she wore. I’m just not sure if it was this same woman.] Lord, draw her to Yourself and keep her safe.

Two disheveled-looking men stopped at the table. One of them had a cardboard sign tucked under his arm. E. Chuck asked him about it, and he replied that they were struggling because of lack of money. E. Lucy offered to pray for them and then led us all in a prayer for their financial recovery, and that they would find meaningful labor at a just and living wage. They thanked us, each chose a Rosary, and took their leave. Lord, You love each of these men. Please grant them what they truly need and lead them to salvation.

Two teens, who were just finishing up middle school and looking forward to high school, stopped. They attend Catholic school and are on fire with their Faith. God is good! Lord, keep them faithful.

Two of our evangelists were talking to someone else when this guy came from behind the column where we were set up, and tried to slip past. However, e. Chuck intercepted him and offered him a Rosary. The man declined, saying, “I don’t do beads.” As the evangelist started to explain that the Rosary wasn’t a decoration but is used for prayer, he interrupted to say that he “had been raised Catholic so knew what the Rosary was for”, adding, “I don’t do crosses.” The evangelist started to say, “We can’t ignore Christ crucified and resurrected”, but he interrupted again. He was still trying to smile and be polite, but his impatience to move on was showing as he said he “knew all that”. He waved at the air, as if to indicate everything outside of himself, then patted his chest, and said, “I don’t need anything else, I have Christ in my heart.” Pray that his heart is softened toward and has room for the sight of the Cross, the graces found in sacramentals, and to his true home in the Catholic Church.

A relative of e. Nancy, her husband’s great nephew, and his pregnant wife and son stopped when he recognized the evangelist. (BTW, we try to never remark on a pregnancy unless they tell us. However, e. Nancy knew this woman was pregnant because she saw them at Christmas.)  They told her that they have been thinking about going to church and were pondering about which one. His wife didn’t seem open to the Catholic Church, but the husband was considering of it because his mother was baptized Catholic. Their little son (named “Rowdy”) got a Rosary and the booklet. Lord, continue to draw them all to the Truth that is You in the fullness of the Faith in Your Holy Catholic Church.

Out of a group of older couples, two women stopped. Neither wanted a Rosary but both wanted a “How to Pray the Rosary” booklet. The lady that spoke to e. Nancy had a very hoarse, low voice and was hard to understand. She said she wanted “a holy card” but pointed to the Rosary booklet that the evangelist was holding. She gave her one and then told her that we have two holy cards on the table that she could have. But our visitor said the Rosary booklet was all she wanted. She also said, “Once you’re raised Catholic, it’s in your bones and you can’t escape.” We got the impression that she is not going to church and wanted to encourage her, but her group was walking away and so she did, too. Lord, heal her heart and draw her back into Communion with You.

One group stopped and a lady wanted a Rosary for her grandmother and then, with a little encouragement, decided to get one for herself. Her face “just lit up” while she was selecting hers. Lord, draw her to use her Rosary for prayer and let her know the joy of spending time with You.

One young man looked quite grim/haughty and determined to ignore us. But he happened to walk by again. This time he half-smiled and politely responded to our offer of a free Rosary by saying, “No thanks, have a good day”, a marked change from the first time he walked by. Lord, thank you for granting the man a measure of peace from just the presence of the Rosaries. Please draw him all the way to You and salvation.

Another young man “did the drive-by”, that is, he simply took the Rosary an evangelist was holding as well as the booklet on how to pray it. May God bless them! Even if they don’t have time to stop, or don’t want to interact with us, people still want a Rosary.

Several people said they already had a Rosary but, when offered, thought it was a good idea to get its booklet. May the Lord draw them to use their Rosary for prayer.

Altogether, the three of us gave away another 15-20 Rosaries and its pamphlet, as well as a map of area parishes.

We’re often amazed that even people who have been away from the Church for decades are still attracted to the Rosary. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
