Honor Thy Mother - 2026-May-10

May 17, 2026

Jesus does. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.

A woman stopped with a question. Without saying anything, she showed me her phone, which had a translation program activated. “How much do they cost?” it said. Free. Gratis. Once she understood, I asked if she spoke Spanish. Yes. So, I gave her a copy of the Rosary pamphlet in that language. May the Lord bless her and help her feel welcomed as she strives to be understood.

A man stopped. I think he’s stopped before. A non-Catholic Christian, he didn’t want a Rosary. But he did voice his worries about the direction in which our society seems to be going. [He wasn’t open to hearing my opinion that, at least locally over the last year or so, the pendulum seems to have begun swinging back.] I don’t think he was at the end of his comments when I suddenly saw two young women approaching behind the table and turned to offer them Rosaries. The man interpreted that as a dismissal, I’m afraid, and he took his leave. Lord, please continue to encourage him to pray that Your Will be done in everything.

A dad, accompanying a toddler-aged girl, went by a couple of times. Each time, the girl tried to come to the Rosaries, but her dad guided her away. Lord, grant that the girl’s attraction to the Rosaries blossoms into a life dedicated to You.

A multi-generational family of adults stopped. Several of the members chose a Rosary and accepted the pamphlet. Lord, please bless that family and keep them Faithful.

A group of young adults stopped. One of them was not Catholic, and the others encouraged me to introduce her to the Rosary. After learning how Christ-centered the devotion is, she chose one and accepted its booklet that illustrates the Mysteries. Her friends said they’d show her how to pray it. Lord, grant every member of this group a lively devotion to the Rosary prayer.

A mother and her young daughter (who was maybe 5 years old) stopped at the table. If they were Christian, it might have only been nominal. The mother suggested the daughter choose a Rosary. The evangelist asked the daughter if she knew that Jesus loved her. She nodded, but then turned to her mother and asked, “He made us. Right?” Assured that was the Jesus we were talking about, she chose a Rosary and took a copy of its booklet. Lord, lead the girl and her whole family into a close relationship with You.

Some teenage boys zoomed by on scooters. One of them mockingly called, “If you pay me $20, I’ll take one.” Lord, save him!

Two men, in their 50s or 60s, walked by. They were dressed in nice slacks and sport coats. (I got the impression they were non-Catholic Christian ministers.) I offered them a Rosary. The older man paused, shook his head slightly, but stayed still for another moment (was he seeking direction from Above?). Finally, he said, “I just want to say ... thank you.” “You’re welcome,” I automatically replied [though it should have been something more like, “Give God the praise”]. Then they walked on. Lord, draw them ever closer to You.

Last week’s session was on the secular holiday honoring mothers. God granted us lovely weather, and so I saw quite a bit of foot traffic, though intermittent. Still, I was able to give away another 15-20 Rosaries and its pamphlet, as well as a couple of Divine Mercy prayer cards.

Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s effort.

God continues to bless the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!

“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
