Even people of no particular faith are drawn to the Rosary - 2019-12-15
December 26, 2019
Even people of no particular faith are drawn to the Rosary. So thank you again for your prayers for Boise’s Catholic street evangelization effort. First-time evangelist “Guy” joined us for the session.
“Daniel” stopped for a free Rosary. When asked if he attended any church, he replied that his grandmother is sick and, not only that, but his uncle is in prison for a crime that Daniel doesn’t think he committed. Evangelist Lucy told him that the best way he could help his loved ones was to get himself into a church and pray for them! At that, he accepted a map to local parishes. When he left, he headed back in the same direction from which he came (which happened to be towards the nearest Catholic church, the cathedral).
“Walt” talked briefly with evangelist Chuck, who said he mentioned his belief in God.
Brick by brick. a photographer moved his tripod and camera toward the Christmas tree in the center of the business park. He was manually making a time-lapse video with his still camera. Our table was set up on his left, near the tree. We were still there when he finished taking pictures, so he showed us the result. It shows us interacting with lots of people in a flurry of activity. First-time evangelist Guy had spoken with the photographer as he had drawn near, and had offered him a Rosary. He did not accept.
Some young teens came by. The first to stop looked awfully familiar, even to face-blind evangelist Lucy. He said he had never received a Rosary from us, and was not Christian. She allowed him to have a(nother) Rosary, and also gave him a(nother) copy of the Good News/kerygma pamphlet. Almost immediately, a friend came over from the same group, who were standing across the business park from us. Evangelist Chuck recognized the second teen as the boy who had caused the ketchup mess last week. (it was a pamphlet that got ruined, not a Rosary). The boy wanted another Rosary, saying he had lost the other one. We gave him the pamphlet but not another Rosary, saying he could use his fingers to count the prayers. He seemed very disappointed. Later, some other (slightly older) teenage skaters listened politely as we told them about Christ and connecting with Him through the Rosary.
An actively Catholic man asked prayers for his father, “Ken”, who was elderly, in an assisted living or skilled nursing facility across the state, and had lost his faith. His son had originally said “no, thank you” to our offer of a free Rosary. A few steps past our table, he had changed his mind and came back. He thought the Rosary might help his dad come back to the Faith. He also accepted one of our “Returning Catholics” packets, and asked us to pray for his dad, Ken.
Another man stopped. He declined receiving a Rosary or its pamphlet, and acted like he knew what the Rosary was about. He was not Catholic, though, and wanted us to be sure we said Jesus was all about love. Evangelist Chuck pointed to the picture in the Rosary pamphlet of Christ crucified, telling our visitor that this shows true sacrificial love.
Lots of young people of no particular faith stopped and willingly received a Rosary and heard us out. May Christ and Mary work deep into their hearts!
Please pray for “Tyler”, who talked at length with evangelists Chuck and Guy. When he arrived at our table, he responded to our offer of a free Rosary with, “I could probably use one.” He ended up choosing a purple one, because the yellow ones were too small to fit over his head. He refused the Rosary pamphlet and kerygma, saying, “they would be wasted on me.” He told us he had grown up Christian. but was “nothing now”. Then he talked about his brother who was a professional skier, about local movie making, and about his job in town, chatting with us until we were packed up to go. As we parted, he said, “Thanks for the help.”
Altogether, the three evangelists gave away about 15 Rosaries, 2-3 copies of the kerygma, 2-3 maps, 2 small Crucifixes, and 1 “Reasons to Return” packet.
Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
Catholic, Christian denomination, or “none”, people are attracted to the Rosary – and to Him Whose story it tells. So thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate!!! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have“ (Judg 6:14).
