Calling all to Christ through His Church! - 2020-07-26
August 6, 2020
Calling all to Christ through His Church! So thank you for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort. Two evangelists were available last week.
A group of men, possibly related, were sightseeing, and one came to the table for a Rosary and its pamphlet on how to pray it. But when he showed it to the others, they told him it was Catholic and he should take it back. So, he came back to the table. We showed him again that all the meditations were Biblical and focused on Christ, but he laid the Rosary and pamphlet down, saying he “had some at home” (meaning, we guess, cross necklaces).
A middle-aged couple stopped. She said she grew up Catholic, then turned to a non-Christian religion, but is now Christian again. She felt she was “in a good place with Christ.” She chose a Rosary, accepted a pamphlet, and politely listened as e. Chuck encouraged her to return to the Church and get really close to Christ in the Eucharist. She said “someday” she would, and left.
A man stopped who said he was visiting from “up north”. He requested a Rosary for each member of his family. We encouraged him to have them all pray it together.
A mother and pre-teen son stopped. She chose a Rosary, but the young man said he didn’t think he’d use it and so declined. They passed by again and, from what we could hear through the mother’s mask, she thanked us for being out there. Our guess is that she is Catholic. In fact, when e. Chuck gave her the Rosary pamphlet, she said she knew all about it.
There was a young woman with a mask with a broken strap that talked quite a while with e. Lucy. She accepted a Rosary and the encouragement to pray it.
A 30-something couple stopped. She sported red contacts in her eyes, but seemed interested in the Rosary. She also asked, “Why, in the Ten Commandments, does God command us to keep Sunday holy?” E. Lucy talked about how forgetful humans are, and that we need to regularly remember the loving God Who created us, and how things go better when we follow His plan, which is for our good and not for woe. E. Chuck added that we set aside 1/7 of our time to spend worshiping God. She thought that made a lot of sense. The man with her said he’d been raised Christian (but seemed to be far away from that now). E. Lucy offered him a “Good News”/kerygma pamphlet, which gives the basic Christian message from a Catholic point of view.
Altogether, we gave away about 15 Rosaries and it pamphlet, as well as one copy of the kerygma.
Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send us people prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
God is calling people to the Sacraments! So thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have“ (Judg 6:14).
P.S. A big thank you to those of you who joined us in prayer during the Rosary novena against civil unrest in the city, as well as the anti-life agenda revealed by the recently elected mayor. In the first days of the novena, many angry outbursts were noted in the streets surrounding the City Hall square. By the end of the campaign, not only had peace returned, but every day, one or more large (4 or more children), intact family groups also came to or through the plaza. This feels like our prayers were heard! So thank you so much! We plan one more round today, in Thanksgiving, and I invite you to pray that with us, too?
