Attracted by the Rosary - 2020-08-02
August 16, 2020
Attracted by the Rosary, people find a means to grow closer to Jesus Christ. So thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort!
A mother with two children (8-10 years old) stopped. Since they were visiting in town, she asked where the nearest Catholic church was. Evangelist Lucy gave her directions, and showed her a thumbnail photo of the church on our map. The evangelist then suggested the mom check the parish website, listed on the map, to see if they had started offering Sunday evening Masses again and/or their Sunday afternoon docent tours.
Two men, each carrying a new-style longboard, stopped. One talked with e. Chuck, while e. Lucy fixed the other one up with Rosary and brochure. When the latter admitted he wasn’t “Christian or anything”, she also offered him a copy of the kerygma.
A passing man did not stop, at first giving an emphatic “no thank you” to our offer of a Rosary. But then he slowed down long enough to ask us to pray for our country, “as it is in desperate need of prayer”. We agreed. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Two teenage boys stopped. Each gladly accepted a Rosary and its pamphlet. A short time later, one of them came back to the table, showing us the little silver cross necklace he had on. He said he had taken it off to do something a couple hours earlier and had forgotten about it, until he picked up a Rosary. He had then run back to where he had left it … and found it still there!
One of a pair of women stopped. She had been looking for a cross to hang on her rear view mirror, she said. So we explained the power of actually praying with the Rosary.
A man stopped, wanting a Rosary. He was not Catholic, so we began explaining the prayers. But he stopped us, saying he knew all about it because he had gone to Catholic school. May the Lord grant his return to the Rosary and to the Sacraments!
A woman passed by, saying she only prayed her grandmother’s old Rosary. May we all shine so much with the Faith that it inspires the next generation to seek God in prayer and Sacrament.
A couple who were riding electric scooters stopped. He was dressed in a flamboyantly floral matching top and shorts. He enthusiastically accepted our offer of a free Rosary, and called his partner over. The man told e. Chuck that he did not know what the Rosary was for. Then he thanked him for explaining how to pray it, and wrapped the Rosary on his wrist. The woman also accepted Rosary, pamphlet, and encouragement to pray it.
A man was gathering signatures on a petition to get someone onto the ballet for US President (but who had no experience at all in politics, even at a local level). We declined, but our visitor accepted a Rosary, its pamphlet, and some reasons to begin praying it.
Altogether, the two evangelists gave away about 10-15 Rosaries and its booklet, 1 copy of the kerygma, and 1 map to area parishes.
Please pray for us again today? Ask that God bring people to us prepared to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
The Rosary attracts young and old, believer and lost! May they each hear Our Blessed Mother gently say, “Do whatever He tells you.” So thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have“ (Judg 6:14).
