Despite Hostility - 2022-01-09
January 16, 2022
[Despite Hostility] Despite hostility and ridicule directed toward Our Lord and His Church, we calmly offer Rosaries and invite people to pray. So thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
Before we gave away a single Rosary, a passing man said there was another group “just like us” a block away and that we should “get together.” E. Chuck went to investigate but, first, e. Lucy made sure he took a Rosary and pamphlets with him. The first thing said by the two men, pointing at the Rosary in e. Chuck’s hand, was, “Get that thing away from us!” From the disturbing images on their posters and the conversation, it was apparent these men were part of an anti-Christian group steeped in racial hatred. Later research showed it to be the modern, rejected, fringe-of-a-fringe group born out of a cult that began at the end of the 19th century. Though their words were filled with violence and hate, e. Chuck came away unharmed, thanks to the protection of Mother Mary and her Rosary. When e. Chuck returned, the evangelists together prayed a Hail Mary for the salvation of the two men. [And the sky turned the most brilliant blue seen in decades. Thank you, Blessed Mother!] At the end of our session, e. Chuck checked to see if the duo was still there. They weren’t. Blessed Mother, please obtain conversion for these two men and for all who have been lured by false religions.
A partial family (dad and 3 daughters, teenage and under) stopped by the table so the youngest (perhaps 10-11 years old) could get a Rosary. She had no idea what the Rosary is, but her other family members enthusiastically said that they were Christian. So, e. Lucy described the devotion briefly to the stone-faced girl, with everyone listening in. They each ended up choosing a Rosary and receiving the pamphlet and the encouragement to sit down and pray it. Lord, please awaken in that girl a lively love for You!
A woman chose a Rosary, but then gave it back, saying she had her old one at home and didn’t want “to waste” one of ours. She had left the Catholic Church because of the priest scandals, said she sometimes wished she could return, but did not believe the scandal and cover-up was over. We told her the progress the Church has made in creating a safe environment for everyone, and how our need for the Eucharist outweighs other considerations. But she felt confident that she was just as connected with Our Lord on her own. We encourage her to take up the Rosary prayer again, and she did accept the pamphlet on how to pray it. Blessed Mother, obtain for her the grace to forgive, and call her back to your Son’s Church through your Rosary.
Three teenage boys stopped for a Rosary, but the tone of the tallest one was mocking, causing the other two to smirk. In the end, the two followers politely thanked us for the Rosaries and pamphlets as they left. E. Lucy encouraged the other young man to spend time with the Mysteries, even if all he had were questions. Please pray that later, when they examine their Rosaries, that the sight of the Crucifix, and the Divine sacrificial Love on display there, will turn their joking into believing.
An older teenage girl stopped for a Rosary. Evidently, she was one of the group of regular teen visitors we had a few years back. She said that stopping at our table was something she looked forward to when she came downtown. Lord, please draw her to use the Rosary for prayer.
A homeless-looking woman came to the table. She wanted two Rosaries, one for her husband. E. Lucy told her we were asked to only give one per person. Instantly, she became enraged, said Jesus would have given her one, and stalked away, no longer wanting even a single Rosary. Lord, please heal her and save her!
A woman looking for the entrance to a nearby event center chose a Rosary. When asked if she knew what it was, she said, yes, she had gone to Catholic school, implying that she was not an active Catholic now. Lord, bring her home to You!
Altogether, the two evangelists gave away 12-15 Rosaries and its pamphlet.
Please pray for us again today? Please ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
Hostility and ridicule are sometimes the reaction to the thought of Our Lord and His Church. But, in His Mercy, He’s kept us safe and calm. So thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
