You see the Holy Spirit at work - 2021-02-21

February 28, 2021

When you pay close attention, you see the Holy Spirit at work. So thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort!

The wind was chilly, it was heavily overcast, and it started drizzling just about closing time. So, as you can imagine, foot traffic was sparse and people were in a hurry.

Early on, a mother and two girls, both under 10, stopped. The mother was at one time a Christian, but was not familiar with the Rosary. E. Lucy explained the devotion briefly, and they each chose a Rosary and accepted the booklet on how to pray it. The mom indicated that they'd try it.

Two college-aged men stopped. One was Christian, but didn't know about the Rosary. E. Lucy explained it as a meditation to help them grow closer to Christ, saying that many people found protection and an unexplained sense of peace when they prayed it. They then each selected a Rosary, and took a copy of the booklet as well.

About mid-session, a homeless-looking woman walked past, very slowly. She didn't respond to the offer of a Rosary. Later, she painstakingly made her way back this way. This time, she heard the word "free", and chose the Rosary that e. Lucy was in the middle of praying. She also took a copy of the booklet on how to pray it. Please pray for her?

A man (possibly the same one who was wearing the evening gown a week or so ago) walked toward our set up. This time, he was dressed more normally. When e. Lucy offered him a Rosary, he turned his back and started talking loudly to no one visible. So Lucy turned back toward the table. A moment or so later, he started to move off, shouting profanities (at which sound, e. Lucy recognized him). He soon quieted, though, and left the square peacefully. So thank you for your prayers! Perhaps grace is already touching him.

A somewhat heavyset middle-aged man came toward the table. E. Lucy offered him a Rosary. "What?" he asked, and removed his earpiece. She repeated the offer. "Oh," he said. “No.” He started walking past, but his eye was caught by our sign. He studied one side, then went around and studied the other. E. Lucy told him we had other information, if he'd like. He came back to the table and said he would like a Rosary. He chose the one that e. Lucy was praying. She gave him a copy of its booklet, too. Please pray for him? He seemed to be caught in lifestyle issues.

An older Catholic couple went by, twice. The first time, the woman cheerfully called that they had dozens of Rosaries at home. I asked them to pray it once for us. When they went by the second time, the woman asked God to bless us and our effort. May God bless them, too, and reward their faithfulness!

I thought we’d go the whole session with having given away only 3 Rosaries. But we did have a few more takers near the end, so the final number was 7 or 8 Rosaries and its booklet.

Please pray for us again today? Ask God to prepare people’s heart to perceive their need for Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s effort.

This is God’s work, and the Holy Spirit is there. So thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
