The Virtual Street Evangelization Workshop is a hands-on evangelization training event. When so many efforts to promote the New Evangelization are focused primarily on catechesis about evangelization, this workshop teaches Catholics, no matter their previous education or experience, how to share their faith effectively and enthusiastically with the people they encounter out on the street.

During this workshop, you will hear presentations by experienced evangelists that teach and model the SPSE method of direct evangelization. After each lesson, participants will get a chance to practice and sharpen their skills in small group breakout sessions. The workshop equips participants with the skills and confidence they need to start evangelizing.

Among the skills you will learn are:

▪ How to start and direct a conversation towards faith in Jesus and the Church
▪ How to share what God has done in your life
▪ How to share the Gospel message
▪ How to pray out loud with someone
▪ How to invite someone to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ

Church Community

Detroit, MI. Br. Andre, Steve, and Mark returned to the farmer’s market on a warm and sunny Saturday. We thought about setting up a table at one of the busiest corners, but Steve wanted to check in with a vendor that he talked to a couple of weeks ago. We walked through the entire market trying to find the vendor and never found him, but we did speak to a dozen other people along the way.

Not far down the road, Steve approached Damon (a police officer) standing alone. Steve started the conversation talking about mundane things but soon changed the subject to faith. Damon and his family moved around the region a lot when he was young so they were always changing churches; he went to several churches as a child, including at least four Catholic parishes. Damon went to a Catholic high school but didn’t like it so he transferred to a public high school. He said that he’s Christian and goes to church on occasion but doesn’t have a home church. We gave Damon a Miraculous Medal, saying that it would give him many graces from God. Mark gave him two pamphlets, “Why Be Catholic” and “Reasons to Return”. We then prayed over Damon, asking God to protect him every day, and restore broken relationships. Steve gave his business card to Damon and offered to have a longer conversation with him. Damon gladly accepted and said that he would call Steve on Monday night. We look forward to talking to Damon again!

Toward Truth & Unity, Pt. 1

Boise, ID. It had snowed enough to stick that morning, and was snowing again when I arrived. Yet, the moment Chuck and our wagonload of stuff reached the square, the snow and wind stopped and the sun came out (and so did the people, thanks be to God!) As we left, dark clouds gathered again at the horizon.

“Ben,” a businessman traveling from out of state, stopped for a Rosary. Turns out that he’d gone to Chuck’s alma mater, which formed a quick connection between them. Ben is Catholic and he asked about local parishes. We were able to steer him toward 2 or 3 that he’d probably feel comfortable in. He accepted a map with their web addresses. He said he would pray for us with his new Rosary, and wished us “good fishing." Pray for grace, mercy, and peace for Ben.
