SPSE’s Fredericksburg, VA, team attracted immediate curiosity during their very first outing. As soon as they set up, in the local shopping plaza, four young men approached to ask, “What’s going on?”

Each wanted a Rosary and team leader Ron Lisk asked if they prayed it. He then explained it to them, walking them through the SPSE pamphlet. Then one said he belonged to a non-Catholic Christian community and voiced a misunderstanding about Catholic use of statues. Evangelist Ron then helped him understand actual Catholic practice, pointing out the parallel between the use of family portraits and statues. Afterward, each visitor took a copy of the “How to Pray the Rosary” pamphlet as well as an SPSE “million dollar bill”, featuring Pope Francis and the Gospel message.

Team members Lolli, Paul, and Flo also kept busy, inviting visitors to consider Catholicism and/or connecting them with a local parish. The three spent time talking with one man who still grieved because, though raised Catholic, he and his siblings had felt hurt by fellow Catholics after their parents’ divorce. He also grieved the more recent death of his mom.

Their last visitor asked, “What are you all about?” The young woman now attended a non-Catholic Christian church, but had begun to notice differences between practicing Catholics and members of non-Catholic denominations. She accepted a Rosary for her grandfather and Miraculous Medal for herself. She also took several pamphlets including, “Why Be Catholic?”, “Scriptural Reference Guide”, and “Common Objections”.

What’s going on here is: Jesus Christ is as alive today as He was on the Day of Resurrection, He is calling everyone to Himself, and He is using SPSE evangelists to spread the Good News of Salvation.
