Stories from the Street

Birmingham, Alabama. There are different phases in the life of an evangelist. Sometimes we’ll hit dry spells, when no one seems to be interested in what we have to say. And then there are times like we see in the first half of today’s story from the street, when everyone wants prayer…all at the same time! As the old saying goes, “When it rains, it pours.”
The following report comes from evangelist Dan in Birmingham, Alabama:
A team of evangelists attended the Diocese of Birmingham Eucharistic Congress in celebration of 50 years of being a diocese. We had a table and handed out many rosaries and Miraculous Medals as usual. For whatever reason, a line formed for prayers at about 3:00 pm (the Divine Mercy hour) on Saturday afternoon. We prayed with people non-stop for 45 minutes or more. Then as it approached time for Mass, the line was gone and Mass started at 4:00 pm. Wow, what an amazing experience! How did that happen?!
Five days later, we were at Our Lady of Sorrows for their parish festival. This year they celebrate the 70th anniversary of the festival. We had a table and handed out rosaries and Miraculous Medals as usual. I talked to a young man about 20 years old who wanted a medal. I asked him if he was Catholic and he said no, but he said the friends he was with are Catholic. So, I asked him why don’t you go to RCIA this fall and become Catholic like your friends? I gave him my phone number and asked him to call me if he has any questions about joining the Catholic Church. Let’s pray that he follows in the steps of his friends and he decides to join the one true faith!
Praised be Jesus Christ! We are blessed to be a part such wonderful events like these. May all of our SPSE evangelists continue to be on the lookout for busy places & events to evangelize at, where we can reach many souls. And may the Lord continue to guide our efforts. As Psalm 127:1 reminds us, “Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build.”
