Suburban Station

Philadelphia, PA. Nancy and I were joined this blustery morning by Deacon Franz and diaconate ordinand Joe. As it was beginning to sleet by the time we arrived downtown, we opted to stay inside and greet passengers and homeless people seeking warmth and shelter in the station. We barely began setting up our stands and sacramentals when the first row of people showed up and began talking with us. Joe was engaged close to 45 minutes with one man who initially claimed to be illiterate but who was well versed in the Bible and at times a bit argumentative. Joe was remarkably able to stay focused and respond well to the man’s comments and questions. In the meantime, the rest of us spoke with a number of other passers by and often prayed as a group with people who welcomed our presence and intercessions on their behalf.

Waiting Room Evangelization

Warren, MI. Recently, I was in a waiting room where there was almost a two hour delay. Towards the end of my wait, a woman sat down who appeared to be very sad and troubled. I ran out to my car and grabbed a St. Benedict crucifix, Miraculous Medal and holy card to give to her at the right time. Not too long after, she asked if I had a cigarette. I told her no, and then seized the opportunity to give her the cross, medal and card. She said her name was “Rula,” and I introduced myself. Then I said that God loved her and that whatever she was going through, to just grab the cross & medal to remind her of His love. She started to cry and explained that she was addicted to a particular drug and was trying to get clean. I tried to encourage her, and then explained the Miraculous Medal and its significance. At this point, someone came out to let me know they’d see me now. Once the appointment was done, I came out and spoke a few more hopeful words before departing. Rula expressed her gratitude, and we parted ways.
