Continuing with stories from Immersion 2019:
We headed over towards the baseball stadium to meet cheering fans later that evening. Our first encounter walking along the stadium was with a man named Darrell who received one of our miraculous medals. I asked him where he was from, and he mentioned that he lived in Detroit and went to a non-denominational church. I was able to share my love of Christian music with him and encouraged him to learn more about Our Lady and the miracles she performs. We prayed with him for an increase in faith and he thanked us for being so kind with him.
Walking towards a nearby park, myself and another evangelist met a man named Silas unlocking his bike. We offered him a miraculous medal and asked him if he believed in Jesus. He said yes, he was a Pentecostal so we asked him if he needed any prayers. Again, he accepted our offer so we asked him if he needed any healing, for we were willing and able to allow the Holy Spirit to come in power over us. He mentioned he’d been having some pain in his leg, so we came together to pray for healing and an openness to truth. Soon after he smiled and thanked us for the prayers because the pain in his leg was gone! We rejoiced in his blessing and mentioned that there were many more miracle stories by the power of God through the medal we had given him. He had to leave, but we encouraged him to share with others that Jesus had healed him and he went on his way.
Just a few minutes later, our team encountered a group of men that wanted some miraculous medals. I talked with one of those men, AJ, who mentioned that he always wanted to believe but he just couldn’t. I ended up having a long conversation with him about the faith. He believed that there was an ultimate goodness that existed, but in his life he had a hard time recognizing that. There was a lot of pain from his past, which caused him to not trust very many people. Bridging that gap, I continued to present examples from my own relationships that commitments were very real. I explained that he was worthy of being loved in that way through people and through Christ who came to build a relationship with us. Although he admitted he was not ready to receive the faith, he was stunned that there were people who were witnesses to living in such a radical way and have so much goodness in their lives. He continues to be in our prayers.
