The Philly / Lower Bucks team has been blessed to get out for street evangelization twice this May. Early in May, Nancy and new team member Aggie went to Doylestown and set up near the Farmers Market. We first attended Mass at the National Polish shrine of Our Lady of Częstochowa and then drove to the borough. The shrine had confessions with the Pauline Polish priests (say that 3X quickly!), which was a very nice opportunity to prepared for our planned work for the Lord. It was a bit rainy and towards the end of the time for the farmer's market, but we met some people and gave away quite a few sacramentals.
A young man named Vincent stopped to speak and pray, noting that everyone can use a prayer. We invited him to check out Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the nearby parish, and noted Mass times and to look for Aggie. It is so important that non-Catholics know that anyone is welcome to come into our Church for Mass. Vincent had never attended a Catholic Mass before and we hoped that he would take up our invitation.
We were surprised when a woman passed us and exclaimed that we were wasting our time praying to a "made-up God" and didn't we have better things to do!? On her passing, Aggie and Nancy prayed the Hail Mary for this lady's atheist heart to soften. We were plenty amazed when twenty minutes later she came back and asked us if we knew that the tree behind us was called a Frill tree. It was a beautiful tree. She said that we probably thought that God made that beautiful tree. We agreed. She spoke of many of the other trees and their names and importance. Finally she asked where we came from and Aggie mentioned that he lived in the area for over 10 years and attended the local Catholic Church and asked if she knew of it. She said yes, her friend had gone there for many years and recently stopped. We told her that she should tell her friend to come back, that it is a beautiful parish and also she could come also if she ever wanted to check it out. She asked if the team would be back again. We told her we hoped to come again.
