On a number of occasions, our team has gathered in downtown Macon, GA, with amazing encounters set before us by the Lord.   We discover each time through our efforts to share the Gospel that the Lord not only brings His blessing before those we meet, but He leaves us enriched by the graces He provides through the power of His Holy Spirit.  As I share about a few recent individuals we have met, I keep the names anonymous of course.  One gentleman we will call John asked us to pray with him  for a family member in the hospital and at the same time he was seeking to find a place to call home.  His needs were many yet we knew that our call was to be "near to the brokenhearted" as we placed all of our intentions in the heart of Jesus.  At the same time, we were able to offer him information on local community resources that provide assistance for housing, meals, etc.  Another young woman we met (we will call her Susan) was Catholic and very active in ministry with other young adults in her parish and beyond.  She was excited to see us out that day, and had encountered SPSE on a college campus in a nearby town.   Lastly, we met a group of three teenagers visiting the area from Atlanta.  Their request for prayer that day was for their dear friend (we will call him Andrew) who had just experienced the loss of his younger brother to suicide just 2 weeks prior.  They were affiliated with a church in Atlanta, and indicated that they were receiving strong support from church members, family, friends and also had been connected with a grief counselor.   As I felt both humbled and totally helpless about the time of prayer I was about to enter, in my surrender, the Lord provided the words that needed to be spoken that day.  It was apparent by the young man's response and deep sense of gratitude that the Lord had once again kept his promises.  His word tells us "He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you."   That was made very real for both myself and Andrew.  The teens were also open to learning more about the prayer of the rosary, and how this could be a meaningful way to draw close to the heart of Jesus and His (our) mother Mary.  Again the Lord revealed His nearness to the brokenhearted.  We encouraged Andrew that the Lord would provide for him and ultimately work with his shattered heart to bring something beautiful, something good out of the places of pain.  As the cross was endured to bring about the gift of eternal life, we will experience a greater good for ourselves and for others as we surrender all to Him.  We thank God for all those we have met through SPSE, and continue to pray for them!
