Hope for the Church – 2026-Oct-04
God is calling many young people to Himself. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
- “Julian”, an athletically built young-adult man on an electric scooter, zoomed up to the table as we were setting up. He wanted to learn how to pray the Rosary because he was just starting OCIA at a local university. A freshman, his roommate is Catholic (though he didn’t know that until later) and his parents are atheists. He ended up seeking Catholicism because he was looking for some kind of campus ministry/social gathering and the most convenient one was the Newman center. Then, once he started attending, he found that Catholicism made a lot of sense. He’d been unable to attend Mass that morning because his parents were visiting, so e. Lucy let him know where he could find a nearby evening Mass. Then e. Clare let him know her family attended the university Mass and then invited him to a weekly breakfast at her house along with some other students. Thank the Lord for these giant steps of faith that Julian is taking, and may his conversion open his parent’s hearts to belief in God.
- A mom with three children (perhaps 8-12 years old) stopped so the children could each get a Rosary. Then she chose one, too. One of us asked if she’d like the booklet in English. “Yes,” she said, “unless you have ... Spanish?” We got a Spanish one out for her, but she wanted the kids to all use the English-language version. Lord, please bless and protect that family and keep them close to You.
- A group of 5 or 6 young adults stopped when one of them wanted a Rosary. We had to explain the devotion to the non-Catholic Christian in the group. By the end of the encounter, all but one member of the group had chosen a Rosary for him- or herself and had accepted the booklet on how to pray it. Lord, draw them to pray the Rosary and reveal Yourself and Your Love to each of them through its Mysteries.
- A quiet young-adult woman seemed torn by our offer and then, reluctantly, approached e. Chuck to take the yellow Rosary he had in his hand. She knew nothing about the Rosary and, when asked if she knew Jesus loved her, her face betrayed sadness and doubt. So, the evangelist quickly said, “Rest assured. Even if you don’t know it, Jesus loves you.” Struggling to find the words, she finally said, “Yeah, I just don’t know what to think. But I do take my grandma to church every week.” Praising her for her care of her grandma and guessing that her grandmother was praying for her full-time, the evangelist offered the Rosary prayer as a great way to get to know the Christ she wasn’t sure about. May her heart and mind be opened to the guidance of the Father, the love of the Son, and the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
- A preteen boy on an electric scooter stopped when he understood that the Rosaries were free. We were explaining the devotion to him when his mom and younger sister arrived. All three of them ended up choosing a Rosary and accepting the booklet. Lord, please bless that family and grant them all they need for salvation.
- A non-Christian couple went by, the man calling out his religious identity in response to our offer. E. Clare responded, “Then, we both love Mary!” He agreed. Lord, only You can heal past divisions and bring everyone to You in unity.
- A Catholic couple was going by. The woman responded to our offer of a free Rosary and came to choose one. Then the man, who had continued a few steps past the table, returned and said he’d like one for his truck. He chose a red-and-black one. We encouraged him to pray with it, too. Lord, please grant both of these people a true love for the Rosary devotion and draw them ever closer to You through it.
- There was also a 20-something man sitting behind us with his skateboard. He declined a Rosary but was very kind. E. Clare offered to pray for him and he gladly accepted. Lord, have mercy on this man and hear his prayers.
- There was a hockey player whom we congratulated for winning his game. He was quite far away and we called out to him to offer the Rosary. He made a U-turn, jogged over to the table, and chose one. Lord, bless him and confirm him in His love for You.
- A group of four, two boys and two girls (late teens?), hesitated when they passed us and then stopped. One girl’s name was “Mikayla”. They were unfamiliar with the Rosary but seemed to know who Jesus is. We explained the prayer and they were happy to take a Rosary apiece. Lord, help Mikayla and her companions grow closer to You and keep them safe.
- Three teenage boys, who enthusiastically said, “Oh yeah!” when we asked them if they knew Jesus loved them, each selected a Rosary and listened to our explanation of the prayer. Then one boy suddenly asked, “Is this Christian?” We said it was and showed him how Christocentric the Mysteries are, which seemed to be a relief to him, and he let us know he had attended church that morning. We encouraged them in perseverance in the faith and said the world needed men of strong faith. Pray for these teens that they will continue to love God and seek to live in imitation of Christ.
- Altogether, we gave away a good 30-35 Rosaries and its pamphlet on how to pray it.
Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit comes of today’s efforts.
What a joy it is to see God renewing the Church’s youth (cf. Psalm 103:5) as so many young people are becoming interested in religion, Christianity, and the Rosary! And thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
