October 3rd Outing
A couple of evangelists and I went out to Winnipeg’s Assiniboine Park to hand out rosaries and SPSE pamphlets. We set up our table at the intersection of several busy foot paths next to the foot bridge that goes to a popular local ice cream shop.
We asked each passerby if they’d like a free rosary. As is most common in this city, most people simply passed by with a polite “no thanks.” But a few people did stop to accept a rosary, and a few also for some brief conversation.
One young university student stopped to accept a rosary, and she seemed very interested to talk with us about the Catholic faith. She was not Catholic herself, but she mentioned that she really appreciates that the Catholic Church thinks deeply about important issues in the world today such as care for creation and other social issues. It felt like she was on a journey of faith, so we encouraged her to keep looking into the Catholic faith, and to look into maybe attending Mass.
An Iranian woman also approached us. She spoke very little English, but she accepted a rosary from us. She also asked about what happens during a Catholic Mass. She seemed very open and curious to knowing more about it. We told her that anyone can attend Mass, and she seemed pleased with that. I pray she continues looking into these things.
There were a few other good but brief conversations with people that day. I pray for all who received rosaries from us and all who we conversed with, that they will be blessed and come closer to Christ and His Church.
