God still Calls – 2026-Oct-18
We don’t know people’s needs, but God does. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
- Our session had just gotten underway when a recorded siren sounded from the building that houses the sports arena, hotel, and movie theater at one anchor of the business park. Then came the announcement that said they had been notified of an emergency, customers were asked to evacuate the building, and any security personnel in the area were asked to come help. (We saw one man with a police-/military-type bearing quietly slip into the sports arena.) The alarm kept sounding for quite a few minutes. Meanwhile, an entire orchestra of formally dressed people carrying musical instrument cases filed into the business park to wait in the far corner opposite us. [We remember in previous years that the musicians had been asked to perform at some proud-of-our-sin event being held in the movie theater.] None of the musicians wanted a Rosary, and more than a few didn’t even acknowledge our existence. Eventually, the siren stopped sounding without anything obviously untoward happening. Thank You, God, for keeping everyone around us safe!
- A very brave high school student had set up her research project in the business park. Initially, she had stationed herself just across the walkway from us. However, once we started calling out our offer of a free Rosary, she moved her display to a more central location. E. Clare went over and talked with her. The student was taking a poll about what issues people were most interested in. She didn’t need to know on what side of an issue we stood, just what the issue was. She’d set up a sign board that gave a running indication of the votes. [As we were leaving, we noticed that the abortion issue was in the lead, followed closely by immigration.] Lord, we thank you for the courage you have given this young woman. Please lead her to You so she can use Your gifts to build Your Kingdom.
- A woman came to the table who turned out to be the mother of the high school student running the poll. The mother was only familiar with the Rosary because she had a Catholic grandmother. She told us that, although she had been raised Chrisitan, she hasn’t been active for a long time. So, the evangelist used the Mysteries of the Rosary to share the Good News message with her and encouraged her ask questions and seek a connection with Jesus Christ in prayer. She accepted a Good News/kerygma pamphlet. Pray that she admits her need for a Savior and hears God calling her back to His family.
- A young man nicknamed “Slavic” stopped to ask some questions about the Rosary. Then he asked e. Chuck whether he was a convert or a cradle Catholic. As he asked several questions about the evangelist’s conversion story, it became clear that our visitor was feeling called to a more liturgical/sacramental church. His difficulty is that he is young, still living at home, and his parents are fiercely loyal to their non-Catholic, non-liturgical Christian church that has strong ties to their family and heritage. Slavic has gotten in trouble for attending Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Masses and tries to keep his research to a minimum at home. He figured his parents would also be very unhappy about the Rosary that he picked out. Please pray for Slavic that he may hear and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit while also honoring his father and mother.
- A nice-looking young-adult man stopped for a Rosary and chose a cream-colored one with pearlized Our Father beads. Later, the other two evangelists, who hadn’t seen the interaction, also offered him a Rosary. He responded by happily showing the one he’d already gotten from us. Lord, please draw him to use his new Rosary for prayer and lead him to You and salvation.
- A Catholic couple with five small children and a dog stopped so the three older girls (aged perhaps 3-6 years old) could pick out a Rosary. Each girl also chose a prayer card for herself. The parents said they had “lots of Rosaries”, are enthusiastic about the devotion, and already pray it regularly as a family. E. Chuck noticed that one of the babies in the double stroller had medical-looking equipment attached. Please pray for this family that they remain united and persevering in faith and that God will lay his healing hand on their child.
- We had several people in a row speak with e. Clare, as she introduced the Rosary to them in Spanish. Lord, You love people from all national origins. Please confirm them each in their Faith in You.
- A homeless man named “Sylvester” stopped to visit with us as he rode by on a bicycle. He had picked up a Rosary from us before but had given it away, he said. He was unsure about the prayer aspect and mostly wanted to just wear the Rosary. Still, he seemed sincere in his trust in Christ. Pray for Sylvester and all the street people that they may be freed from addiction and mental illness and that their faith in Christ will grow.
- Altogether, the three of us gave away another 30-35 Rosaries and its pamphlet, 1 St Francis prayer card, 2 Holy Family prayer cards, and1 Good News/kerygma pamphlet.
Please pray for us again today? Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s effort.
Our repeated joy is seeing God call people to/back to Himself through the Rosary. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate! In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
“Go with the strength you have” (Judg 6:14).
