1st SPSE Team Outing
My brother in Christ Terry and I had our first evangelization outing in Sunny Huntington Beach at the HB Pier Plaza. Our Lord gave us a beautiful sunny and breezy day to share our love of Christ with the people visiting Huntington Beach. In total we handed out well over 150 Rosaries, miraculous metals, and crosses. We also had good conversations with over 20 people of all different faiths. We met people from Brazil and Canada as well as people from all over the USA. Here are a couple of notable interactions.
We met Robert, Kayla, and Lola, and they were from a local sober living house. When we first encountered them, they said they were protestant but were very interested in the Rosaries. They each took one and we also gave them lots of literature about how to pray the Rosary about our Catholic faith. We also gave them information about the local Catholic churches so they could attend mass. While Terry was talking with Kayla and Lola, I was having a good conversation with Robert, and he was telling me about his problems and time he spent in jail. He also mentioned that he felt like he was in a spiritual war, I asked him if he would like me to pray for him and so I prayed with him and asked the Holy Spirit to protect him and give him peace.
We had a nice talk with Lusail who is a local Catholic. She thanked us for being out there and professing our faith. She was interested in SPSE so we explained what evangelization is and how the SPSE approach works. She expressed an interest in becoming a member, so we directed her SPSE website, and I also told her about the upcoming training at our parish, and she said that she would like to attend.
The Holy Spirit saved the best for last. Terry and I met two gentlemen, while Terry was talking to one, I was having a great discussion with Jesse. Jesse had lots of good questions about faith and Catholicism in particular. He was very interested in the sacraments of the Church, and I was explaining everything about them. He explained to me that he was Baptized in the Lutheran faith but really drawn to the Catholic faith. He has read Church history and really had a good understanding of our faith. I felt the Spirit telling me that Jesse was ready, so I told him where our church was and told him that I usher at the 11:15 mass. I said when you are ready to come into the church come and find me and I will walk that journey with you.
All in all we had a tremendous day, we planted lots of seeds for the Holy Spirit to coltivate. Terry and I were in awe of the power of the Holy Spirit and we could feel the Spirit with us in all of our encounters. We were so pleased to finally get this first one under our belts.
