Last fall, I was blessed to go on my first pilgrimage with our Bishop and a group from my diocese to Greece to follow the footsteps of St. Paul. It was an amazing experience. One of the pilgrims was a man, who I found out had a serious illness and the doctors told him there was nothing else they could do for him. One day, while we were sitting near each other, I felt that the Lord was calling me to pray for healing for him and I asked if it would be okay if I prayed for his healing. He was very open to prayer, so I followed our steps in our SPSE healing model and prayed that all the organs that were diseased would be fully healed and the doctors would be enlightened to help him be restored to full health. He was very moved by the prayer and grateful to be prayed for. Sometimes we are blessed to witness a healing in the moment and sometimes, especially when it isn’t an outward illness, we don’t know the effects of the healing prayer. I continued to keep him in my daily prayers for healing and strength.

Today, I received a card from him, filled with hope and joy. He said that he went from being told he wouldn’t live to receiving treatment that has improved his health. Although we don’t always know what happens when we pray for healing, what a blessing it was to receive the note and hear of God’s work in his life.
