This report comes to us from evangelist Michael with our National SPSE team:
During our recent Immersion conference, teams of attendees were sent out to practice their skills in real-life settings. I joined Albert, a man who attended the conference with his family, and we strolled around the market trying to strike up conversations and hand out sacramentals.
The first person who actually engaged us in conversation was a Catholic woman who was selling Italian food and had many opinions on the church. She was fairly friendly, but admitted that she struggled with the handling of the abuse scandal. However, she seemed determined to remain faithful to God and the church. Both Albert and I tried to mostly listen, as so often we interrupt someone to interject with facts but wind up closing off an initially open heart. We hope that, as St. Francis once said, that God made us channels of His peace.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
