Stories from the Street

Royal Oak, MI. This time every year, the leaves start to change color in the northern states, transforming into the most beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow. They eventually fall from the trees, which means the coming of winter. But throughout the changing seasons, God’s love and mercy remains the same. As St. Teresa of Calcutta once said, “Love is a fruit in season at all times, and within reach of every hand.”

The following report comes to us from evangelist Anne and our SPSE team in Royal Oak, MI:
59 degrees and sunny – Yay God! Another chance to share the Good News with your people. “Hey, where is your dog? I hardly recognized you without him.” We spoke with “Jan” many times throughout the summer. She walked her dog through downtown Royal Oak enjoying the sights and sounds AND enjoying talking with our evangelists…sometimes at length. She accepted a rosary in August and told us last night that she gave it to her mother. She also shared some family strife related to verbal abuse by her sister and her adult niece. We offered to pray and she accepted our offer. As for a rosary for herself, she declined but she did take a brochure on the Good News.
Jonathan, a high schooler sporting spirit-wear from a local Catholic high school asked for prayers for his parents after sharing that he attended the local parish school for nine years. We spoke briefly about his academics and then prayed. He was off to Starbucks to study. Susan, a woman in her mid-40’s, requested prayer for her children and spouse before rushing off to meet her girlfriend for dinner. Multiple people opted to keep walking but DID accept a SPSE Good News brochure. And the Good Lord gave us the opportunity to greet dozens of people with joy-filled smiles and hearts…and feet.
Praised be Jesus Christ! How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the one bringing good news. Announcing peace, bearing good news, announcing salvation, saying to Zion, “Your God is King!” (Isaiah 52:7). Thank God for the feet of Mick & Anne, our evangelists in today’s story, who bring the news of salvation to Royal Oak. And thank God for each and every one of you who continue to bring God’s message of healing and salvation to a world that desperately needs it.
