About a month ago I was on a week-long mission trip in General Cepeda Mexico with my wife and 2 kids and a handful of other U.S. families. One of the mornings was dedicated to doing street evangelization. Having been through a one-day SPSE training session a month prior, I was anxious to go give it a shot! With my 2.5-inch cross worn on the outside of my shirt, off our group went into the streets striking-up conversations and having amazing encounters. In one particular instance, I passed a gentleman who was delivering big bottles of water into a store. He passed me and murmured in a low volume, "Viva Jesus" (Jesus lives). I kept walking to the corner, but felt compelled to turn around and go talk to him. He told us the story of HIS faith journey and how Christ saved him from the streets. His work-partner joined us, then proclaimed with great exuberance his own story of Jesus helping him overcome drug addiction and how he has since given his life to Him! I felt compelled to ask him to pray for us missionaries, which he gladly did on the spot with a beautiful prayer. It was a great reminder that the Spirit's in charge, and all we have to do is invite Him in! |
Last summer, I was helping a group show the truth about abortion. The event was called face the truth tour Maryland. One day a young girl drove slowly by us and was yelling at us that we were bad people we shouldn't be doing this blah blah blah. I said to her "God loves you very much and he has a fabulous or wonderful or something like that plan for your life." She screamed back at me about how if that was true, God wanted her to get raped etc that that was his plan for her. She was very angry. Then she left, but came back later with her own handmade sign. She stopped her car and marched up and down the highway among Us with her sign saying that our God wants people to be raped and beaten. I just prayed for her and did not continue to try to talk to her. |
