New Beginnings

March 31, 2025

As the dogwood trees are blooming along with the cherry blossoms it is a sign that out of death God bring new hope and new life.  Going out to evangelize now is a bit warmer from the colder temperatures.  Bob and I are excited to be starting at a new venue, Walmart, after we have been at the present bus stop for almost 7 years now. We will continue to evangelize at the bus stop since it has born so much fruit.  We also had a wonderfully gifted evangelist, Bernie from Baltimore, come out with us to check out our team.  She had a big smile on her face and a big love in her heart for the people that she met.  I sometimes want to avoid the rough crowd down at the other end of the transit center where you can smell people smoking pot.  But Bernie and I started to engage these two young adults, and to our surprise one of them was Christian and gladly accepted the Benedictine cross.  I encouraged him to share his faith with the other young adults who were not interested and had turned down our offer for a miraculous medal, and he agreed to do that.  We also had a new person join us, a friend of Amparo from St. John Neumann, Alicia, who was a great help in reaching out to the Spanish people at the bus stop.  They were able to connect with many mothers whose children had never been baptized and to have them get in touch with St. Martin's parish to receive their sacraments.

Tom, who is a regular at SPSE with me, shared a powerful story when he went out with his friend Molly to evangelize.  Before going, he asked the Holy Spirit whom to look for at the bus stop.  He received an image of a young Hispanic man, relatively thin, sitting on a bench leaning forward with his elbows on his knees.  Upon arriving to his surprise he saw that man on the bench and offered him a cross and miraculous medal which he accepted but he declined to be prayed with.  In the past Tom would have walked away but he continued to engage him and wound up talking with him for one hour until his bus came.  He shared that his mother was Catholic and father Christian, so he was raised going to one or the other church.  He fell away from going to church at all which led him into a sinful lifestyle.  He wound up in jail 8 times.  However in the last jail sentence he cried out to God to help him and miraculously he was freed.  He had a conversion of heart and vowed that he would live for God and now has part-time work.  Tom was there to steer him in the right direction to not lose the grace that God was pouring into his life, and he plans to accompany him in his walk with the Lord..  It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.  Thank you Tom that you were there to reach out to him
