Never give up on the Holy Spirit, even when it is slow on the street!

July 30, 2025

It was a slow, late July outing along the main street of downtown Lake Orion, Michigan in front of a favorite local restaurant for many. Dave and I passed out a few rosaries to those who passed by during our time evangelizing. Most of whom we interacted with were practicing Catholics and thanked us for being out sharing the Gospel.

Just as Dave and I commented on how slow it was, and we had about fifteen minutes before our ending time, Steve approached us. Steve had parked his classic car a few feet away and patronized the restaurant and politely declined our offer of a rosary and prayer twice. Dave even offered him a nice red rosary to match the color of his car. It was on Steve’s third passing that he stopped and asked us what we were doing out here on the street. We simply stated we are sharing the Good News with anyone who Jesus put before us to hear it, as well as passing out rosaries and offering prayer. It did not take long for Dave and I to notice something from his past hurt his relationship with God. As we kept the conversation flowing, Steve divulged about what happened to him during his twelve years in the Catholic school system. He claimed to have been physically abused by a nun during class and that made him very bitter. Dave and I profusely apologized for his experience and simply stated that we are all sinners in need of a savior. Steve believes in God but no longer believes that Jesus is the Son of God but was only a human man. Dave and I asked if he believes in the written Word of God (the Bible) and Steve responded that he does not. Dave and I felt as if we were losing traction with him, but we continued to listen to Steve. Before we knew it, an hour had passed! We offered to pray with him on the spot, but he declined the offer. As our conversation came to an end, I asked where he was from. It turned out he resided quite a distance from Lake Orion. I interjected that Jesus led him to us, but he quickly laughed that off just about as soon as I mentioned it. We ended the night with big hugs and handshakes and told Steve that he brought us much joy this evening. Steve even helped me carry our table to my car and then we departed paths. Please pray for Steve’s reversion back to the Roman Catholic Faith!

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever!
