What is an SPSE team?
An SPSE team is two or more faithful Catholics who evangelize using our proven non-confrontational method in order to bring the truth and love of Jesus Christ to a fallen world. They invite those who have either never known or forgotten Christ to return to Him and His Church. Teams are led by team leaders who plan a minimum of four outings per year and ensure that all evangelists sign and follow the code of conduct. Teams gather in a variety of locations including street corners, public parks, festivals, soup kitchens, or private shopping areas such as Walmart (with permission).
There are several types of teams:
- Individual – A standard team that anyone can start
- Parish – A team that is connected to a local parish and has the pastor’s support
- University – A team led by students or campus ministers at a college (see also Student Ambassadors)
- In development – A new team that may not be fully formed yet
What is a team leader?
A team leader is a faithful Catholic who is called by the Holy Spirit to evangelize and lead others in the work of direct evangelization in their community. They are not only an evangelist, but they also take on the responsibility to organize a team and invite at least one other person to join them in this mission. Most of our team leaders have families, full time jobs, and other responsibilities, yet they go out into the community and lead at least four evangelization outings per year.
How do you become a team leader?
We ask anyone who is discerning becoming a team leader to contact us through our Start a Team page. We will send you a guide for discernment and an application. Once you’re ready to apply, you’ll be asked to fill out the application and provide one faith reference. If accepted, you’ll be asked to complete our online Introduction to Evangelization course (or a live Basic Evangelization Training) and our online Team Leader Training course. You’ll also have the opportunity to receive coaching through our Street Ready Evangelization Call to ensure you’re prepared to hit the streets.
What are the qualities of a good team leader?
The qualities that make a good team leader are not determined by education or personality but rather by a response to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Remember that the Holy Spirit is the primary agent of evangelization and our responsibility is to be docile to His promptings. Team leaders need to have a strong spiritual life, a zeal for souls, perseverance, and the time and willingness to start a team.
What is the financial commitment of a team leader?
We ask you to partner with us in our mission to respond to the mandate of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20). This includes your financial support. Partnership levels start at $15 per month. The benefits of becoming a partner include discounts for evangelization supplies, free shipping from our online store, online training and support, access to live training video conferences, access to Street Ready Phone Interviews (over-the-phone coaching in the 4 Basic Skills of Evangelization), access to all of our pamphlets in printable format, and the knowledge that your contributions will be well spent for the conversion of our entire world to Christ and His Church. If finances are an issue, we have found that parishes, dioceses, and other individuals are often willing to provide financial support.
How can I get in touch with team leaders?
