Bloomington, IN. In this picture is Friar Augustine of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. Friar Augustine is from Australia, and is only temporarily stationed in Indiana. Here we see Friar Augustine talking with a student on the campus of Indiana University about the importance of holding fast to the Christian faith for one’s salvation. The team spoke to many students, especially freshman, about the danger of losing one’s faith in college. They focused on the importance of students getting connected up with the Catholic community on campus, or in the local area, and directed many Catholic students to the Newman Center on campus.
The common problem of college students losing the faith is connected to an eternal truth about human nature: Human beings are social animals! We discover, support, and live out who we are in community. When a student goes off to college, they need to join up with the faith community or they will likely lose their faith. Their faith will go the way of the communities that they engage in. No wonder Christ established a Church!
There are many people out in the world who have strayed from Christ for lack of Christian community. Why don’t you join us, as we go out into the world and draw our own brothers and sisters back into the community?
