Arlington, VA. Most people who see the work of SPSE see us “on the street.” But in growing the apostolate, Saint Paul Evangelization Institute is also involved in the work of training new evangelists to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and continue the work. SPSE runs Basic Evangelization Training (BET) workshops at parishes, and also trains individuals to become Regional Missionaries (RMs). Evangelization is not complicated, but there is a foundational level of apologetics knowledge that we expect evangelists to have, as well as a committed prayer life and an expectation of orthodox belief. Our evangelists, in generosity, often give of their time and talent in these trainings, taking to heart the words of our Lord, “freely you have been given; freely give” (Mt 10:8).
This report comes from evangelist Rafael of the Vienna, Virginia SPSE team:
“Mike Brown with Christendom College in Front Royal, VA, conducted an evangelization workshop recently with 15 students participating in ages between 20 to 22 years old. The workshop consisted of two weeks “in the classroom” and then three weeks doing a variety of evangelical works/activities. As part of their “on-street evangelization” he asked me if we could do a workshop and then take the students out to the subway stations mostly in Arlington since they would be operating out of St. Charles Borromeo parish. So last Saturday Linda and I gave them a one hour workshop on street evangelization and then took the students out to evangelize for three hours. We had two other ladies from St. Dominic Catholic Church in DC join us.
I had the blessed opportunity to be with each of the five teams formed and experienced the fire in their hearts proclaiming the Good News.”
Praised be Jesus Christ! It is always so encouraging to see the faith and zeal of young people wanting to get involved in our apostolate, as they are the future of the Church. In “seeing how it’s done” in real-life ways, they are given an opportunity to put into practice the Great Commission all baptized people have been given by our Lord to make disciples of all nations. Thank you Rafael and Linda, and thank you Christendom College for your willingness to get involved with SPSE and the work of evangelization!
A great example of witnessing to those in need.
