Warren, MI. Seeing a kind and familiar face can always do wonders for the soul. That’s the case in today’s story. Our evangelist encountered a woman whom he had shared the gospel with in the past. Unfortunately, he found her feeling rather “down in the dumps”, so he simply gave her some words of encouragement and made sure to smile. It’s amazing what a smile can do to cheer someone up. As St. Teresa of Calcutta once said, “Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.”
The following report comes to us from evangelist Br. John with the Society of Evangelists in Warren, MI:
Last night I stopped by Walmart to pick up some kitchen supplies. A worker that I had prayed with a while ago spotted me in the aisle and said “Hello.” She’s been having a hard time and her days have been gloomy, but she felt that God sent me to cheer her up. We said a prayer for Jesus to come and fill her with joy and hope. I encouraged her to open up the scriptures and connect with people at church. Then I gave her my contact for more prayer. I did my best to smile and that made her smile. She asked for another medal and I explained how Our Lady will protect her and heal her heart. Needing to get back to work, we parted with joy and big smiles.
Praised be Jesus Christ! Sometimes evangelizing is very simple. A smile. A word of encouragement. A reminder to read scripture. Any simple gesture that shows you care. Returning to St. Teresa of Calcutta once again, let’s keep in mind one of her most famous sayings as we evangelize: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
