SPSE teamed up with the Archdiocese of Detroit to bring “Nightfever” to Detroit this week. The evening event combined music, prayer time, Adoration, the availability of priests to hear confessions, and a welcoming atmosphere for people to learn about the Catholic Faith. Evangelists personally invited more than 200 people into the church to light a candle or pray.

One person who met the SPSE team was “David.” David noticed the contrast between “the bad situations on the street” and “the open doors of the Church”. He said it gave people “a chance to make a good decision”. Our two evangelizing seminarians encouraged him to stop in and pray, since he had been away from the Church for a while. David did go inside, and then met with a priest for Reconciliation. Afterwards, he said he was so glad he had come by and looked forward to Mass the next day. David told us, “My mom will be SO excited!”

A young couple, who had just gotten engaged, took advantage of the open church doors to pray together in front of Jesus, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. Afterwards, one of the priests blessed them and their engagement.

A non-Catholic who came in was “Juan”. He prayed briefly, and then sat down “to just sit and take in the beauty”. He took a few pictures, and so one of our volunteers offered to take his picture inside the church. This began a nice conversation and the volunteer pointed out the priests there who could pray with him. Juan said that he liked the sound of that and so our volunteer introduced him to Fr. Jim, who prayed for him.

SPSE teams make the Catholic Faith visible across the country and around the world. Our bringing Jesus Christ “to the streets” reminds people, as it reminded David, to make good decisions even in the midst of evil situations. It also encourages active Catholics like the young couple, so they know they are not alone in striving to live out their Faith. Plus, it offers hope to people like Juan who have yet to discover Jesus Christ and His Church. You can be part of this exciting work! Are you a member yet? If not, please pray about joining us!
