This report comes from team Mark with our Eastern Market SPSE team in Detroit, MI:

Anne and I returned to Eastern Market on a sunny and mild morning. A group of Jehovah’s Witnesses was already stationed at our usual corner spot so we moved down to a shady spot half a block away.

I had a follow-up conversation with Sam the butcher from a few weeks ago. He asked me if Bob, another evangelist, was there; Bob and Sam had a meaningful conversation on the importance of sacramental Confession. Sam didn’t say if he went to Confession but he said that he will go to a basilica in Ohio on his day off next week. He accepted a few more holy cards and another Confession pamphlet.

A devout Catholic woman approached our table and was happy to see us out in public. I told her that we evangelize outside of the market once or twice a month and invited her to join us. She seemed hesitant at first but took a few of our holy cards with our contact information; she promised to pray for us and would consider evangelizing.

A middle-aged man across the street saw the “free items” on our table runner and he literally came sprinting to the table. “I’ll take anything that’s free!”, he said. I gave him and his wife Rosaries, medals, and holy cards. I asked if they were Christian and they said that they were spiritual but sometimes went to certain Baptist churches. I talked about the importance of Sunday worship and how the Catholic Church offers us “the fullness of Truth” while all other churches or religions offer only parts of the truth as well as many lies.

Half an hour before our scheduled end to the outing, a Muslim man came and set up a table, chairs, and cooler twenty feet from us. He stood up a banner with all of the heresies of “What Muslims believe about Jesus.” Thankfully, he didn’t impede us at all. Actually, I was happy to see that almost nobody talked to the Muslims and Jehovah’s Witnesses while dozens of people stopped to talk to us.

Praised be Jesus Christ!
