This report comes to us from team leader Patti with our St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen team in Detroit, MI:
A day in mid-December brought a great deal of happiness and thankfulness to the guests on a very successful outing to St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen. Thanks to so many people and, of course, the Holy Spirit, who led us along the way. The idea started in September when the thought came to us, how wonderful it would be to have a Christmas gift package for each of the guests when they came to lunch. We asked several of our directors from our parish, St. Therese of Lisieux to team up with us and they all agreed. We then came up with a list of personal needs, snacks, warm hats, etc. to be a part of the “Blessing Bags” that we hoped to give to each guest. Students from the Religious Education program and Austin Academy were asked to donate specific items. A team of people put together 150 bags to be given out. Along with our religious items, many prayerful moments, each guest received one of these gift bags. We also left special bags for children with a coloring book, crayons, treats, a game and a little bear that said “Jesus loves you so much!”
In addition, our parishioners were very generous with their “Giving Tree” donations and gave a wonderful check to the soup kitchen for the purchase of food and other needed items. What a fulfilling day for everyone! A big thank you to all of our “Village” and Blessings from our Lord!!!
Praised be Jesus Christ!
