This report comes from team leader Mark with the Eastern Market SPSE team in Detroit, MI:
Eric, Michael, and I returned to evangelize outside of Eastern Market last Saturday. The morning started with heavy rain—I thought about cancelling the outing but decided to keep my commitment. The rain stopped but it was still a cool and windy morning at the farmer’s market. There were relatively few shoppers and few pedestrians. We tried to start conversations with twenty different people but all quickly passed us by and nearly all ignored us.
The spot where we usually stand is in front of a bank, not far from an ATM. Two thirds of the way through our outing, a middle-aged woman walked near our table. Eric offered her a Rosary but she politely declined and headed towards the ATM. A few minutes later, after her transaction, the woman approached our table and said “I’m trying to be more intentional with my prayer life” and thought that the Rosary would be a good way to try that. I told her to take whichever Rosary she wanted, pointing to the pile on our table. I handed her a pamphlet on How to Pray the Rosary while Eric gave her a Good News/Kerygma holy card. I briefly explained the Rosary, especially its focus on the Mysteries and meditating on different scenes of the Gospel. I also told her that it was an old tradition dating back to the 1200s, she responded and said that she knew it predated the Protestant Reformation. She thanked and promised the Rosary. I’m sure that Our Lady and the Rosary will lead her to the Catholic Church.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
