The following story comes to us from team leader Joseph with our new St. Peter the Apostle team in Trinity, FL:
Recently, there was a huge weeklong festival in a nearby town called the Chasco Fiesta! We decided to go and walk the streets, engaging folks as we walked. We were grateful to have our newest members Dave and Marie join us! It was so much fun to talk to so many people as they lined the streets awaiting the parade and boat races. We met Detria, who was knitting a beautiful sweater for her mom who has health issues and is always cold. We prayed for her mom, Detria and her two children and her husband. We met a mom (Cat) and her daughter who were all set up to watch the marching band as her son (Stretch) played trombone in the band. The band just won nationals! We prayed for them all and for Cat’s shoulder, which was very painful for her.
We met a man trying to get signatures for pot to be on the next ballot. We asked him if he wanted prayers but he got mad when he saw Joe’s hat that said he was Catholic. He told us he didn’t want anything to do with us or the Pope. We silently prayed for his soul. We went inside the newly renovated Hacienda Hotel and met two couples that wanted prayer!
We met Ralph and his wife Carina, who have three children. We prayed with them…one child was going for his master’s and another found a new girlfriend. They were part of a group that is in the parade. We prayed for them to be safe and have fun. Their theme was Key West. They participate in many festival parades and find this one is their favorite because it’s so family friendly.
Ran into a huge annual gathering along the parade route and spoke to many people. We gave them each a small toy Jesus to put into their Easter eggs for the kids. Many of the group were Christians and one participates as a cook at a summer camp for foster kids!
Joe noticed an elderly man (Pete) sitting by himself and engaged him in conversation including his WWII experiences. Coincidentally, he was from Long Island near where Joe grew up. He asked for prayer to be a younger version when he is resurrected. Pete was very grateful that he was noticed and that we took the time to talk with him. He gets lonely but loves living in Florida.
Until next time! Fish Fry Friday at St. Pete’s!
Praised be Jesus Christ!
