This report is the second in a two-part story from evangelist Mark with the National SPSE team:

Four evangelists—Bob, Carol, Mark, and Tom—evangelized outside of the Dearborn Homecoming on the last afternoon of the three-day public festival. Carol and Tom are both parishioners at Divine Child, a large parish a few miles from the festival grounds. We spoke to many parishioners from Divine Child as well as nearby Sacred Heart. We encouraged each Catholic to evangelize in their daily life—take sacramentals and offer them to their family and friends.

Carol and Tom spoke to dozens of non-Catholics and invited all of them to Divine Child. One particular guest said that he lives a block away from the church but has never been inside. Mark pointed out that the parish has a perpetual Adoration chapel so he could visit literally anytime. Some people seem like “low-hanging fruit” and easy to approach. This was the case with a young man, Armando, who walked down the sidewalk wearing a t-shirt that read “Jesus Christ is King”. He approached us, along with his friend, Orlando, who was also wearing a gold Miraculous Medal. Both young men go to the Basilica of Ste. Anne in Detroit. We encouraged them in their faith and I invited them to evangelize with me the following week.

We spoke to a young couple in their late teens, early twenties. The young man is Catholic while the woman is Methodist. The young woman quickly admitted that he was working on her, challenging her in faith, and wants her to become Catholic. She wasn’t sure if she was baptized or not, Mark explained that a priest or deacon could do a conditional baptism. Carol talked about the graces of the sacraments and the teaching authority of the Catholic Church. The young woman accepted a “Why Be Catholic?” pamphlet as well as a Rosary, Miraculous Medals, varies holy cards and other pamphlets.

Our last conversation was with a 20-year old woman who was raised in two churches—Her father is Catholic while her mother is Seventh Day Adventist. She enjoyed her time in the Catholic church and liked it more than Protestant churches, but she is unsure of where God is calling her. Mark led a prayer, asking God to give her wisdom and discernment. She accepted pamphlets about the Eucharist and the Mass.

Praised be Jesus Christ!
