The following story comes to us from team leader Anna with our team in Uptown team in Dallas, Texas:
Despite the hot Texas summer weather (97° F), our SPSE team continued its mission last Sunday. Fewer families with children passed and foot traffic was altogether slower than usual due to the heat. As our tables are under several trees, the heat did not bother us until towards the end. I considered breaking up earlier, but, after praying, we decided to stay the full two hours.
Then, out of nowhere a young couple showed up and we soon learned that neither of them had been baptized although their parents are Catholic. We explained the great importance of the sacrament of baptism for salvation and encouraged them to join the Catholic Church. We handed them information on how to contact the church nearest to their home in view of joining RCIA and getting baptized. Both eagerly absorbed every word and told us that they had just been talking together about their deep desire to join a Church before they reached our tables! The woman especially longed to rectify the situation and the husband was in agreement with her. All of us were amazed, speechless and grateful to God for arranging this fruitful encounter. The couple left full of gratitude for the help they were given.
A bit earlier, a bilingual Latin American man was touched when receiving a Miraculous Medal on the street for free. He wanted to pay for it, but I told him we could not accept any money. As he hesitated, I handed him a SPSE card (with audio talks) and told him he could support our headquarters, if he so wished. After a pause, he resolutely replied “I want to help you!” I invited him to join our team- we do need a Spanish speaker – and he accepted the invitation at once.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
