The following story comes to us from evangelist Christopher in Middletown, NJ:
Today our team went door-to-door with our parish priest on the street our Church is located on. It was a great day! We had many positive interactions. A woman at the first house we went to was so touched that we stopped by and she started tearing up. She said that she doesn’t go to Mass “as much as I should.” After our conversation she seemed enthusiastic about coming to Mass. “I’ll be there,” she said.
The highlight of our day was meeting a woman who was raised in a Catholic household but who was never baptized. She believes in God, and sends her kids to our Church’s summer camp, but she herself has never received the sacraments. We had a conversation with her, and she will be joining our O.C.I.A. group this year.
Another man we talked to is agnostic, but he agreed to pray with us even though he said, “I don’t usually do this.” We all prayed an Our Father together. We also met a fallen away Catholic who is a Baptist minister. He joined the Baptist community when he moved to the area from Puerto Rico because they spoke Spanish. I shared about how I returned to the Church and about the real presence of Jesus in the Catholic Eucharist. He was receptive, and we encouraged him to look into the Church more.
Even though most of the houses we went to did not open the door for us, the interactions we did have made the day completely worth it!
Praised be Jesus Christ!
