The following story comes to us from team leader Anne with our new Detroit Criminal Justice Center team in Detroit, Michigan:
Our first visit to the Criminal Justice Center (Wayne County Jail) was Thanksgiving weekend, 2024. We were not sure if we would be assigned to a male or female pod; we knew the Lord was in charge and would bless our visit. Other teams (of two) were visiting when we did, which was on the Sunday of the long weekend at 1:00 p.m. We were assigned to a women’s pod (for further information on pods, see: What Is a Pod in Jail and How Does It Work? – LegalClarity) and an officer walked us through the building and to the pod; it was about a five-minute walk. Once in the pod, one of the officers who works in the pod announced “church”. The interested inmates were asked to gather in the gymnasium area; each brought a chair for herself and had a seat. About a dozen women gathered and we greeted each woman as she entered. We felt called to do a brief teaching on the Kerygma and then pray for each person who asked; all asked. We listened to their requests, and lifted those to the Lord. There were many tears and smiles of gratitude. After we had been there for about an hour, the officer returned to the pod to take us back to the sign-in area.
Praise Jesus for His loving help!
