The following story comes to us from team leader Lucy with our team in Boise, ID:
Truth leads us to God. So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
Two 20-something women stopped when one of them wanted a Rosary. She was not familiar with the devotion and, when asked if she were Christian, paused and then said that she was agnostic. She politely listened to our explanation of the Rosary as a way to get to know Jesus Christ and accepted a copy of the Good News/kerygma pamphlet. Lord, draw her to Yourself and salvation!
An angry man on a bicycle took exception to the words “Catholic” and “Truth” on our sign and accused us of spreading untruths. He believed neither in the Trinity, nor in the Divinity of Jesus, though he thought of Jesus as Messiah. He also didn’t seem to want to hear any replies to his “questions”, and scoffed at James’ encouragement “to stay open to the truth”. Because we were set up under a somewhat narrow skybridge and rain was falling on either side of us, we asked him to move a couple of times: first, so we could hear him over the business park sound system and, second, so he wouldn’t be blocking access to the table. He took offense after the second request, accused us of nefarious motives, and left. Lord, with You nothing is impossible. Please reach his heart and draw him back to You!
Two Catholic young adults, male and female, attended Mass at a nearby Newman Center and stopped to thank us for being there. The man asked us to pray for the man he is sponsoring in OCIA, “Earl”. He accepted two invitation cards to the “That Man is You” (TMIY) Catholic men’s group. The man and woman each also selected a Rosary “for someone else” they knew, and agreed to teach them the prayer. Lord, bless these people. Keep them faithful to You, and continue to help them draw others to You, too.
The young-adult man, who talked to us a few weeks ago, stopped again. (He was a self-proclaimed pagan, and had tried to give us money, but had refused a Rosary because he “worshipped other gods”.) This week, he seemed nervous. But he asked if it was okay for him to take a Rosary so he could “give it to his mother”. We said it was more than okay and, with the aid of the pamphlet, showed him what the prayer was all about, so he could tell his mom. Please continue praying for this young man. Ask Mother Mary to pray for him, that his love for his mother leads him to faith in Christ.
The teenage or young-adult clerk at the ice cream shop, where we stopped for an after-session visit, replied, “Sure, why not?” when James offered her a Rosary. As he extolled the merits of praying the Rosary, Chuck went outside to our wagon and got her one in her favorite color. Lord, draw her to actually pray the Rosary and turn to You.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
